What Exactly Do These Coordinators Do?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering what these coordinators do all day at the doctors office. I know they have to meet with prospective patients and call insurance. But why does it seem to take them a week to get back to you every time you call? I just want a time frame for when she plans to submit for approval. It has been a week and nothing. Inma bout ready to be a pain in her bum that even preperation-h cant cure.

Keep on them. You have to be a pain in the ass sometimes to get some people moving. Good Luck!!

WOW, I am glad I don't have that problem...my doctors office always gets back to me the same day...I'm not scheduled yet, so there is a lot of pre-planning, and they are ALWAYS there to help! Good luck to you!

1) My coordinators job was to lose every other piece of document that I provided.

2) To forget to schedule important doctor appointments.

3) To not return calls for 4-5 days if he even does.

4) To never send my package to the insurance company, so I had to get em on the ball again.

5) To call me when insurance approved me acting like he did me a favor expecting me to be gracious.

6) Basically I was on the fast track of 3 month wait that turned into 7 months because of him.

She assumed I needed 6 month diet. I told her durring the consult my insurance didn't have the diet. I had to have a diagnosis of obesity of 5+ years. So she was sitting on my file until she got 6 months of diet. But failed to tell me that. Last week it was she would submit info this Monday. This week I need to have this that and the other for her to even submit! What the frap?

I'm going to this surgeon because him and his medical team are the best. But his coordinators stink a big one.

I know how u feel. My coordinator won't respond to my emails. She told me that I had to see a dietician for 6 months. I told her I was seeing my doc monthly and said that a dietician isnt in my budget. My insurance doesnt req it. So y is she.still.pushing it. I asked.her if WW will suffice.and she has yet to respond..which.was two weeks ago!

My coordinator seems to submit paperwork for me, but I don't really hear from her. When I call to ask for her, she relays the message through another person. I'm sure she's super busy but it just makes you feel like you're nothing more than a file number and scheduling slot. The office in general is pretty efficient, but not very communicative. :-/ I'm starting to think my coordinator is a mythical creature...

6 months of weight watchers is what I submitted. It was very much acceptable.

They wanting to use their "recommended" dietitian? Aka the person they have a contract with?

Im still miffed that she was going to just sit on my claim until she had 6 months of diet. Which I told her she doesn't need. Once those papers are submitted I'm calling insurance to check the status. Not her.

Don't get me started on my coordinator. She is sooooo slow at responding to an email. If i email her today i will be lucky to get a response by next Wednesday. Also my coordinator has no idea how much vsg will cost. I am debating changing doctors but really don't want to start over.she is only able to give me a cash price and tells me to contact my insurance for more details. That doesn't help me. Sorry i am very frustrated and emotional over the mess right now.

It's hard when you like the surgeon and not the staff. That is where i am at right now! Sooo frustrated and trying not to cry and yell at my coordinator right now.

You owe it to your surgeon to tell them how their staff has handled or mishandled your file. Remember, this is how the MD gets paid & in turn, pays THEIR salaries. If they are sitting on files or don't understand your benefits, they are costing HIM money!

Now for the other disclaimer: it is the policy-holder's responsibility to know what benefits your policy allows. Become the subject matter expert before you go down this road. I printed the policy (you can ask customer service to mail or email you it) and handed it to the staff. I met ALL the requirements before I saw the surgeon & knew that my carrier had up to 30 days to make a pre-determination (same as most carriers). I was approved in 2 days & scheduled for surgery 2 weeks later.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
