Back And Forth...anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to be sleeved Aug 30. I am excited but there are days where I say "I'm not doing it. I can lose it on my own." One day I feel great about it and one day I am having second thoughts. Is this normal? Anyone else go through this?

I was the same way... Up until they took me back to the operating room I was questioning myself... I am only 10 days out but I have come to peace with my decision and couldn't be happier!

Have you ever lost weight on a diet before? I'm guessing yes. Then what happened? If you're like me, you gained it all back, plus more. Then did this again and again and again. This surgery will stop the vicious cycle. No more diets. No more vicious cycle.

I think alot of people have second thoughts before surgery, but almost everyone is glad they had the surgery after.

I'm going through the exact same emotions. I so want to get it done and then I think, OMG this is a huge for the rest of my life thing do I really want to do it? Yes I do! So relieved that there are people out there going through the same stuff. I just think of my kids, and being able to do more with them and being able to fit in seat on the roller coasters and I know this is the right thing for me. I am sure these thoughts will continue but I know this is right for me.

I don't even have a date yet other than "sometime in December" and I'm having the exact same feelings!

I hate it when people say that wls is an "extreme" option. When you look at the statistics, it really isn't extreme -- it's a proven effective tool in immediate weight loss and long term maintenance. I watched "One Nation Overweight" on Netflix the other night, and there it was again -- "the extreme option of bariatric surgery." It was really bugging me!

But now that I have my nutritionist appointment scheduled, and my date as "December 2012," "Extreme" keeps popping into my head. Like, this is crazy, I can do it on my own, I don't need surgery, etc etc... I don't know. I've got more time to mull things over than you do. I believe that this is a great decision -- great that we even have the option! Good luck.

Exact same feelings here. I go to the meetings, say, yes! I want I look that good! But then I think, sheesh! Surgery, this is the rest of my life, I can't change my mind after the fact. Am I just being lazy? I keep going back to all the posts that people say they wish they did it sooner. I've seen some regrets immediately following surgery but I've seen a post of someone 1-2 years out regret it. I'm hoping for a September surgery date. Just waiting for insurance approval. I could of had it next week with my original surgeon but just didn't feel comfortable with him. His practice felt too much like an assembly line. Love my current practice. I feel like everyone in the office cares and I'm not just a number.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
