What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"

Recommended Posts

The last guy who told me that I was perfect except for "one thing" --my weight.

I've been hearing this all my life. I'm tired of it.

I am happy you are using this to spur yourself to good health. However it is my opinion that that guy is a Loser with a capital L. Who is he to judge you. Good riddance! You deserve better at any weight!

I know there's supposed to be a man code, but that's pretty shallow. So, here's my suggestion, in about a year or so when you're knock out dead gorgeous, give this guy one more date, so that he knows what he missed out on. Oh and BTW- you won't be able to eat much, so be sure you choose a REALLY expensive nouveau restaurant, you know the kind, extremely tiny portions (more than enough for you) and big pricetags. He'll go home hungry, broke, and lonely.

For me it was looking at the 8-9 pills I was taking everyday. The threat of insulin shots and the idea I could die and leave my 3 children alone. My youngest and oldest would be ok but my middle guy who was 14 when I had the surgery has autism. He will never be able to live on his own. I was 48 and decided I didn't want to die from something stupid. food addiction is real and I am one but I needed a tool that would help me loose and help me from gaining it back. Also I am an RN so I know better! I give a great shot but I hate getting them! So 21 months later I am 140 lbs lighter. I hit my goal weight in Jan. 2014 and have kept it off since. I have a 5 lb leeway but if I get within 2 lbs of the high I dial back whst and how I eat. I turned 51 3 weeks ago I was a 3x to 4x I am now about a 12 to 14. I saw a friend from high school yesterday that I had not seen since before the surgery. He even noticed I am lighter now then I was then!! I love my life now. I can fit regular clothes! I take one pill a day (hypothyroid) and I can fit in any sit where ever I go. I also don't have to have the special scrubs at work for the bigger personal. I wear a medium!! Hang in there one and all. It is worth it all to get your life back. It is still a struggle with food but it's not the ruler of my life anymore.

3. Fatigue

4. Sitting in the same chair during a week long workshop and realizing the tiles have cracked and are GIVING WAY under the footpads of my seat.

My "last straw" was being too young to feel this old!

I will be 30 this year, and I'm tired of existing but not LIVING!

I have 2 little boys, and a wonderful husband and they are my world......I love them more than I love food. It's ok to be scared of change, but I'd rather start living my life for everything I hope to be, instead of everything I fear I never will be. In the business of life, you can get busy living or get busy dying. :D

I noticed i had to change when i started having strong suicidal thaughts. I hated myself and i took all that anger out on everyone around me. I never wanted to go anywhere do anything or be around anyone. I just got tired of my weight making me hate everything.

Love your post! Congrats on doing it at 30. I was 45 and wished I had this option so much sooner!

I help train my daughter's performance horse that she shows. I got thrown from a horse at a show. First of all, embarrassing because I have bad balance because of my weight. Secondly, I broke 6 ribs and my wrist. As I sat in the ER in sever pain I said I need to do this now!!! I cant take it any more. So at the age of 42 I am going to get this done. I have 4 lbs left to lose so they will schedule the surgery. I am struggling to get these off! Any advise?

Jen

Are you taking Protein Drinks? I drank Premier Protein religiously morning and night and took my Vitamins. Once while watching JayLo on TV she was asked what she did to loose weight. She said she drank a Protein Drink in the morning, had a small lunch with a Protein drink, and had a protein drink for dinner. She also said that it was important to take vitamins and lots of Water, although Premier Protein has lots of vitamins to begin with. Anyway, I was doing that regimen before I saw JayLo on TV, and when I heard her say that's what SHE did, I knew that was the way to go. Think about it: If you take a Premier Protein Shake for dinner, you will be getting 30g of protein, 160 calories, 1g of sugar, 3g of fat and 24 vitamins and minerals. All night long as you sleep, you will be using nutrients until you wake up in the morning for another shake. Your only indulgence is at lunchtime. Then it's back to shakes again. I like the chocolate. BUT always ask your doctor what his/her recommendations are.

Having the orthopedic surgeon tell me that if I did not have the surgery or found a way to lose weight, I would be in a wheelchair by this time next year or sooner.

I had been working with a personal trainer for 18 months, dieting, loosing weight and feeling good......then my sciatic never went nuts & all of the sudden I had terrible back & hip pain. I did physical therapy & it got a little better. I have bursitis in my hip too as it turned out. A full year went by of me being in chronic pain & the littlest thing would make it worse. I gained back all the weight I lost & I was getting depressed because I felt like I couldn't do anything with my family that use to do. So I went to my doctor & he said I should consider WLS and he also referred me to a specialist to get shots in my back. Well I couldn't get treatment for my back because of my weight & that doctor told me I should consider WLS too. I realized I was stuck & I was sick of being in pain.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
