Pj's Or Nightgown For Hospital Stay?

Recommended Posts

I usually use PJ's when I'm away from home but was thinking today that maybe a nightgown would be better due to the incisions. Does it really matter?

They kept me in the hospital gown the whole time and after surgery, I didn't much care. It made things easier.

I was in a hospital gown the whole stay as well. I did take my robe to wear while I was walking in the halls. Just make sure whatever you take is loose so it doesn't bother your incisions. I wore sweat pants home, they were nice and comfy.

I wore the gown the first night and but on my own comfy clothes the next day after my leak test before I went home (pants with an elastic waistband)

I asked for an extra gown and put it on backwards (kind of like a robe) to walk the halls. Easier to wear the gown with all of the IV cords, leg compression machine, etc.

Good luck on your surgery!!!

Ok I have a nightgown my mom bought me from the hospital gift shop after my emergency gallbladder surgery. I'll pack it just in case, but plan to wear the hospital gown. I know I will need socks and slippers. My feet are always cold. :(

I picked up a loose sundress at Kohls today for $10. Not the most attractive thing I've worn, but it will get me home. It will be handy if I end up having to run any errands the first week or two as well.

I'm all about high fashion hospital gear! :) I have been looking to purchase some polka dot and striped patterned night gowns that are designed for hospital use. Just think a little color will brighten my day while there for 2-3 days.

Good luck to you!

Check with the hospital. Mine required you to wear the hospital gown--no exceptions. They put one on me backwards to walk the hall--I was covered and comfortable and perfectly fine with it. At home, I was more comfortable in a gown/dress for a while--elastic pants hit my drain site/incision.

Most useful thing I took to the hospital--bioten mouth spray. It is a spray for dry mouth--they also have mouthwash and toothpaste. It was so very very helpful to get through the first day.

I used the hospital gowns, but I brought my own socks with the plastic, non-skid things on the feet. I really was attached to my sock when I walked the hallways to work my legs and get the gas out. I would only bring a loose fitting house dress or loungewear for when you are discharged.

If your hospital sees a high volume of WLS patients, they will have comfortable gowns for you and it will go smooth. Also I encourage ppl to bring chapstick. You'll be surprised how dry your lips will be when you wake up and you can't have anything to drink (not even ice chips) until you do the swallow test (at least that was the case for me!).

I'm almost jealous of the hospital gowns lol. My surgery is out patient so I have to get dressed afterwards and go to a hotel near the surgery center. I hadn't thought about a sun dress. Thanks! I was going to go out and buy sweats lol. Mine are all paint stained.

I wonder if anyone can answer my question about................underwear! Can you wear them during surgery? I could when I had my lapband. The one thing I will feel weird about is if I can not wear them.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
