New hope that is exactly the same for me. I think I will go to my Protein drink at dinner instead of food perhaps with a little fruit. Yes it has been a horrible eight weeks but hope it will get better. How long has it been for you? Do you work too?

Yes Kat, I work full time. I had my surgery June 5. I think about the same time you had yours. I have also considered drinking a second Protein Drink for dinner. I'm just afraid I'm going to get so sick of them that I won't be able to get them down either.

Okay I tried to have a Protein Drink for dinner with some fruit. It did not work and I barely slept the night due to empty feeling in stomach. I can honestly say I am ready to give up.

sorry, no giving up allowed, lol.

I talked to my NUT last night and he suggested trying some soft Proteins . . . A Protein shake made with milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans.

You might try some of those and see if they help.

Oh Kat - It could have been the brand of Protein or the fruit that you had. Please, please, please order the Unjury Protein Powder at their website. I have had the vanilla and the chocolate splendor. Both are good. They also have unflavored and strawberry. I REALLY disliked the chicken. Unjury was recommended at my hospital and by my NUT, also, I have tried others, and it is for me the most easily digested, best tasting, and the protein is the highest quality. And no I do not work for them, etc....Lol. I just want to find something that will work for you. I think you might want to stay away from the fruit right now. Another idea is to find a nutritionist as close as possible to you and make an appt. You MUST keep trying to find answers and you will. In the meantime, please go order the Unjury!!! It's worth at least trying isn't it?

Hi Joni I just ordered the Unjury and calcium citrate so yes I will try it. I am so tired of being sick and hungry. And I am not even loosing weight. It just does not make sense to e. I don't just sit behind a desk all day I am running at my job all the time. Very frustrating. My doctor is away until sept so as soon as I can get in I am going to ask him about a nut even if I have today myself. I really need some positive right now lol. Big hug.

So Kat are you basically on full liquids & mushy foods right now? Are you able to tolerate yogurt or cottage cheese/ricotta cheese yet? Blended Soups? Are you able to get your protein/fluid goals met yet?

Kat - refried Beans? Mexican food... taco bell?

They come in a can and are basically Beans that are made mushy. I would think you gotta have them in the grocery stores? Not one of my favorites, but you can add salsa to them and melt cheese on them. Don't know how you would add them to a Protein drink and make it good though???

I am SO glad you ordered the unjury. What flavor did you get? Did you see they have tips and recipes on their site too, and a newsletter you can sign up for.

There is also a website sponsored by Unjury that has info from professionals. They might be able to address some of the issues you are experiencing and give you some sound advice. I would tell them you went to Mexico and have no followup here and need help desperately. It is www.baribest.com

Hope this helps a little. Please stay connected to us here. Above all, never never give up. There are answers, we just have to find them my friend.

Yes they are basically a mashed bean usually with cheese melted on them.

Kay, you are on solid foods now aren't you?

My Nut just thought they might stay down easier than meats in the evening & they are filling.

Thanks Joni. I will keep you posted.

New hope I am on solid foods and that is what I can not keep down ugg. I have my Protein drink with a piece of fruit for Breakfast. lunch is cold meat with salad. dinner is meat with veggies. Oh in the afternoon I have 1/2 of a protein drink so I am not too full at dinner. That is basicly my food intake. I will try that site and see if there is any advice that they can give. Thank you so much both of you. You mean a lot to me.

Right now I am getting in around 500-600 calories and my NUT says that is OK as long as I am getting my Protein in. I drink a 30 g. premium protein drink for breakfast. I usually have about 1.5 oz. of lean meat for lunch with a little fruit or a soft veggie. Supper is the meal I usually have problems with, so sometimes I have another shake, or a little protein and fruit, and hope I can keep it down. I don't usually snack much between meals. If I have anything I have 3 or 4 nuts.

Sounds just like me so keep me posted. I am at about 600 calories per day and dinner seems to be a write off. If I just pick at dinner and walk away then I am okay but if I try to eat my dinner then everything comes right back up. I don't understand why as I make sure to measure everything out.

Sorry haven't been on lately. We boutha beach house, so have been there with no internet. Finally have it hooked up! I have my 3 month followup next wednesday. Hope the Dr is happy with my weight loss. I know it is not as high as many. I started Zumba classes a few weeks ago, but have been on vacation this week, so no Zumba. The food is staying down better at supper, but only eating 2-3 bites of Protein. Then add a little fruit. I am at about the same calories as you Kat. It seems to run between 450 - 600 per day when I count my calories.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
