Ope everyone is doing great. Well if anyone has followed my story it began eight weeks ago. I wanted to let you know that my bandages came off yesterday and I am finally healed. Stomach has nasty scars but I am well and that is the main thing. Thank you to all who send encouraging words through my scary ordeal.

Well everyone it is hard to believe that it is almost 2 weeks post on Monday. Unfortunately due to not having anyone check up on me while I was recovering in Mexico I ran into a terrible infection which is under control now. So if you are going alone be sure that someone from the hospital is checking up on you. I was left alone from Wednesday until I flew home on Friday. Now I have a smile on my face but what a tough couple of weeks.

Good going PEvette! Today is day three of my preop and all I can think of since I came home from work is FOOD lol. I ate as much lettuce as a colony of bunnies for dinner so I know I can't be hungry. Drank two water and am feeling so tired. So keep up the good work. This is definitely a challenge. Tomorrow will be better

Before surgery very few people knew. My mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law, grandma, and uncle knew. I told my closest friends and a few select coworkers that I knew would be supportive, including my boss. I wanted to avoid the naysayers and be comfortable with my decision and focus on the pre-op stuff prior to undergoing the procedure. Coworkers that didn't know were simply told I was going on medical leave. Since surgery, I have told a few more people, but have limited the knowledge simply because it is still new (surgery 4/24/12) and I have lots of things to focus on yet. (I did tell one neighbor, a nurse, who I thought would be supportive. Instead, she tried to talk me out of my surgeon, who I love, so I never brought it up with her again.)
It's a personal decision who you tell and you have to do what is right for you. I'm not ashamed of my decision, I just don't want to have to explain why I made it.

I did not tell many people until after I did not even tell my mother until after. At work only 3 people know my best friend had hers in july and she had been my biggest support we also work together. Thankfully the people I have told have been supportive. My mother was the most negative she could not understand why I did it since according to her I did not need to lose much weight but at 75 she is always in a diet and does zumba she is thin. My brother told me.I will be back to my birth weight he had been great even had an argument with my mother defending me. So far so good I was sleeved on 4/4 and have not had any complications since day one. Positive mindset plays a big part in this journey

I'm not sure I understand all the nerves? Maybe it's because I've had surgery before - been there, done that - so it doesn't scare me. I'm just excited - ready to get this thing overwith and get on with the rest of my life! LOL

DesertRat, My ethnic background is primarily American Indian as well. ALL of my great great grandparents were full blooded Indians (choctaw and cherokee, IIRC). Diabetes runs rampant through my family as well, including my father and my youngest son are both Type 1 diabetics. While I was in the hospital last year, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic as well. My father died at 54 from complications of uncontrolled diabetes. I'd like to NOT follow in his footsteps.
I'm glad your PCP steered you toward the sleeve. From my reading, it seems that the sleeve works much better than the lapband, with fewer complications.
Maybe my willingness to tell is because I'm "older" and less worried about other people's opinions of me. I don't know, but I'm pretty open about it. If someone wants to ignore my WLS posts on FB, they are welcome to unfriend me!

    aviiva,
the 5 day pouch test was orignally desgined for bypass patients... it is a 5 day 'reset' style thingy... first 2 days is liquid proteins, then soft mushies proteins such as fish, then the last two days are meats.. google it and you will get more detail.
I did it over a year ago and although it was tough in the beginning... I like to chew!... I did find that it helped reset my sleeve and I felt more restiction afterwards.
I am thinking about giving it another to see if I can break my stall... just gotta get in the right head space first!

For me, it isn't a matter of embarrassment. Heck, the fact that i am overweight is embarrassing! I need to focus on me for once and not waste a second explaining myself to people who may not be supportive. I get my feelings hurt easily and I know this so It's a matter protecting myself. I may change my mind later on, who knows?
