I had my sleeve done Feb 12th 2013. I've lost 100 lbs. Never been happier with a major decision! Hubby will be sleeved Jan 2nd. 3 more semester's of clinicals and I'll have my NP.

I have worked 12 hour shifts for the last 6 years. I used to eat non stop, now after the sleeve( Aug, 21,2013- down 63 pounds) I pack 2-3 low fat greek yogurts, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 4-6 ounces of Protein to split during shift ( tuna, chicken, turkey, cheese), Decaf tea, high Protein chicken Soup from unjury . I keep forgetting breath mints, or sugar free gum. but at the end of a shift surely need that too. Best thing I ever did in weight loss, was this surgery.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I am getting sleeved 1/22 in puerto Vallarta. I am not planning on telling co-workers. Did you guys(fellow nurses) get a lot of questions? I'm taking 4 weeks off but haven't thought of the response for why I was off. I know technically no ones business, but I don't expect people to not wonder.

I only took 10 days off... One week vacation plus the weekend before and the weekend after, so my co-workers thought I just had a week vacation I took at home. Taking 4 weeks off will be hard to explain without completely lying.

Hi all! I'm in TN. Been a nurse 17 years. 14 of those in ICU, last 3 as a nurse manager of tele and ICU. I'm hoping to take 7-10 days off. Fingers crossed I'll get scheduled for end of Feb or early March. Worried about getting enough fluids in. Even though I'm not at the bedside, I still inhale my food, forget to pee, and don't drink near enough. Really hoping I can learn to fix all those bad nursing habits. Not telling many. I really don't want that kind of focus on my personal life.

well i have had many challenges, but not being able to glug Water, was a shocker. it gets very hot in my hosp, i did not tell one single person at work. i love nursing been in acute care for 30 years, but nurses talk, and i don't want to be judged. i have been loosing very slowly, so i have not had a big physical change. i took one week off and i was fine, looking back i should have done things differently. Gas X/simethacone is a must, can't manage with out it. helps with hyper-salivation and gurgling, and meal planning, you know the creb cycle. if you don't get in 40-60mgs of Protein you will not heal, you will feel like joe shits dog, and you hair will thin out. i would rather be fat than exercise, so i walk, you really have to commit, because you are not going to feel too peppy and have Protein Shakes at hand for nourshment at all times. good luck

You are so right about those protein shakes.. they are life savers. I love the way designer whey and champion whey taste.. I can tell real fast when i dont get enough protein in.

How does going back to work go? Anyone have issues with fatigue, pain, nausea? I'm going to plan to split up my days so none are in a row in the beginning. I'd hate to be in a patient room after lunch and run out to get sick....I'm a worrier, so like to be prepared!

I went back on Post op day 10 and had no issues at work. I made sure I sipped Water all day. I was on full liquids so I had plain Greek yogurt for lunch and threw half if it out when nobody was looking (Nobody at works knows of my surgery). I made sure when I got home I put my feet up and relaxed. I let the family order dinner for the first week because I had no desire or energy to cook for them!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
