Update-I Wonder...

Recommended Posts

I haven't posted in a while. I was sleeved on Jan 30th 2012 by Dr. Garcia in Mexico. I've lost 60 pounds so far and I've hit many stalls, especially when it is that time of the month. I go up 5-6 pounds and then go back down, never breaking over 60 pounds. my hair is thinning even though I take all of my Vitamins and buy good hair products. I drink a Protein Shake every day for Breakfast, but usually eat a small meal for lunch and dinner. I am glad that I am making progress even though I have a long way to go. I need to lose about 140 more pounds to be at a comfortable weight.

I know we are all different, but I wonder if I am on target. I wonder if I am the norm. I will be 6 months out on July 30th.

Hi, Rahnava... I too was sleeved by Dr. Garcia..Surgery day was April 27.. So far I've lost 55.3 lbs post op, but I lost 16 lbs pre op..for a total of 71 lbs.

I completely understand about the 5-6 lb weight gain during TOM. I'm currently going through it right now and its' so frustrating, but even if we're smaller and at our goals this would still happen..I see it as one of the woe's of being a woman..

You'll break out of the 60's I'm sure of it.. I was stuck for about 3 wks at 300 lbs and within 2 days... i literally dropped 4.5 lbs. I upped my workouts and spent more time outside sweating and I believe that helped a lot...

I agree with Lauranbob... 60lbs in 6months is awesome! Sure we'd like for it to be more, but I've found that we all lose differently.. I've read on here where some have lost 100 lbs by month 4 but that clearly isn't in the cards for me.. As long as we're losing that's what's important, right? :)

My goal is to lose 9-10 lbs a month. Anything extra is just icing on the cake... Sometimes I've exceeded that and other times like this month I have not.. I've only lost 7.8 lbs for July, but it's 7.8 lbs less on me than before. I have about 100 lbs to loose myself. So I figured 9-10 lbs in a month in a 10 month period is feasible. I don't think I'm reaching for the stars with that amount...

We can do this!! Set backs..stall's or whatever you call them are bound to happen.. But as long as we're following the plan we can't lose...

Stay encouraged, okay? :)

Your weight loss is not slow. It's not super fast like some folks get, but a lot depends on your genetics and how old you are, along with starting BMI. 60 pounds is amazing! You are right on track for YOU! :)

Keep up the great work! :)

rahnava - we were sleeved just a day apart and it seems like we're moving at the same rate. I've lost 64 pounds since surgery (31 before), so were almost weight loss twins. I get discouraged when I hear of super fast weight loss that some experience. But I try to always remember that slow and steady wins the race.

I also hate that time of the month 1 week before and 1 week after weight totally flucuates.. I think it's normal and if I hadnt had this procedure I probably did the same thing my whole life and never even noticed.. I think you are doing fine and congrats on your loss thus far...

Normal weight loss is a relative term. We are very different. I probably have a whole lot more to lose than you do. We were sleeved about the same time, I'm down about 115 lbs, I have another 115 to go

Circa I started day of surgery 10 pounds less than your highest weight, so you are a good example of super fast! I am proud of you. I am trying not to be discouraged because its a process. When I see how close I am to being in the 200s I just get a little impatient. 15 pounds!!!! c'mon!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
