What's Your Drink Of Choice?

Soda that is...lol

Before surgery I was an orange Fanta chick. If I was having a moment I needed that orange Fanta. It felt sooooo good going through my veins. I would close my eyes and just feel that cold orange Fanta go smoothly down my throat. It was my drug! I has my last one during my pre-op.

Funny thing is now I don't crave it.

Confessions of an orange Fanta recovered addict thanks to the sleeve!

WAS a Dr Pepper addict, broke that 3 years ago, thank God. I did not like what I read about how HFCS spikes blood sugar even quicker that table sugar, and the "real" Dr Pepper is too expensive. I gave up sweet tea early this year in preparation for surgery. I weighed my priorities and decided I just cannot afford to get so many calories (especially empty ones) from sugary liquids. The price is too high.

I kicked my major dr pepper habit a few months back. Then somehow I got a taste for Coke Fountain drinks. I threw those away a few weeks ago. I am now in my pre-op diet phase and I have to say, Water definitely is my drink of choice NOW. I can't stand tea, can't stand Fruit Drinks everything is too sweet. I enjoy a bottle water over anything. Sometimes I may flavor it with water enhancers, but I find those seem too sweet too.

My name is LT and I'm a Diet Coke addict. If only I could find a 12 step program. I wonder if they'd take me at Passages Malibu?

I like bubbly Water with favors. No sugar, but the bubbles are going to have to go soon.

I won't miss them....but I will miss wine for the first six months after surgery lol. That may kill me! :P

I honestly loved Orange, Lime or Lemon Seltzer Water. (weird, I know). Ginger ale for tummy aches and Orange juice for colds.

I loved the carbonation but was never a big pop drinker. It wasn't about pop for me, but the carbonation. I get serious Migraines and I found that the carbonation is what would make me burp really loud and would start relaxing some of the muscles in my neck, head and face, especially when taking Excedrin Migraine with the carbonated beverage.

I quit all those things when I started the program in November except the Excedrin Migraine which I quit 2 weeks before surgery. I have had a few migraines since then and took tylenol, which didn't touch it.

I get botox injections every 90 days for migraines and usually a 1 to 1-1/2 weeks before the injections and usually 1- 1-1/2 weeks after injections you get a lot of break-through migraines but then you are golden for 2 months. Injection time is creeping up on me in August, and I am prepared to go without the excedrin and seltzer Water.< /p>

I've never been a big soda drinker but I LOVED iced chai prior to surgery and love it now, the difference now is that I get it with alternative milks if possible and when I make it myself I make it into a Protein Shake.< /p>

Fresca.

With my band I stopped drinking all carbonated drinks for about 4 years, then slowly added Fresca back in, about 1 can per month. When you see what sodas (acids, etc.) do to teeth, it's not hard to give them up. Stopped again when I had my sleeve.

The only thing I've ever craved the when I've given it up was the "burn" of the carbonation. Never missed the flavor, and it's already sugar free/decaf so I didn't miss that. I missed the carbonation burn of a freshly opened can being chugged down.

I do love that carbonation, cold drinks seem colder when they are carbonated, so when I need that "burn" I drink a pellegrino or perrier or some other carbonated mineral Water.< /p>

This one has me torn, most comonly I would drink Dr. Pepper simply due to availability. But my favorites were Izzy carbonated juices & Stewarts Ginger Beer it's kinda like a spicy ginger ale. To be honest I've tried Dr. Pepper again after surgery & I have to say I was totally not impressed.

Dr. Pepper and Pepsi from Taco Bell! I'm not brave enough to try anything post op. I've been soda free since 12.26.11. These past couple of days have been hard because I've been at the county fair (my youngest shows sheep). Oh, how I wanted just one drink of ice cold dr pepper especially while sitting in 100 degree+ heat. Yum

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
