Any Ladies At 5'5"? What's Your Story?

Walking outside or treadmill is about all. Been thinking about slim in 6. Where did you order your zumba from? Who was your dr?

I go to the YMCA mostly, but did order some Zumba DVD's on line at Zumba.com and have done them too. They are really good The set is called EXHILERATE. My Dr is Terry Scarborough with Texas Laproscopic Center of Houston or TLC Surgery. Are you in Houston too?

Jhannsen I would incorporate weight training. By gaining more muscle you will burn more fat :)

I totally agree. I had an appointment at my gym to go over the weight equipment and meet with the trainers there yesterday. As luck would have it I was called to jury duty and it ran past the time of my appointment. I keep trying to make this stinkin' appointment and something always gets in the way. This will be my goal in to do by the end of the month for sure. Going on vacation next week so it will have to wait (again).

I love it, 2 hours and 30 minutes. When is your surgery?

July 23--I am on day 2 of the pre-op diet right now. Day one was rough--today it was better!

Another 5'5"er here. Started this at 275, was 254 at surgery on 4/9, and at three months out I'm 225 for a total loss to date of 48 lbs. Slow loser but I'm dealing with thyroid and metabolic issues. I'm fairly large boned and carry my weight in boobs, hips and butt. Very much an hourglass shape. I can gain a good bit of weight before it ever shows. I'm currently in a smaller size than I wore when at this weight previously, due to toning and exercise. Began at a 2X top and 22/24W bottom, now in a L top and 16W bottom. I was 154 at my skinniest about ten years ago and would love to see that again someday, but we shall see. I am trying to judge by appearance and feel and not numbers, but it's hard.

For the past two months I've been exercising an average of 4x week, having to keep to low/no impact due to a back injury. Currently my schedule looks something like:

Monday - I hr Water aerobics, 30 mins elliptical

Tues. - 1 hr elliptical or Zumba, 30-60 mins strength

Wed. - 1 hr Water aerobics, 30 mins elliptical

Thurs. - 1 hr elliptical or Zumba, 30-60 mins strength

Friday - off

Sat/Sun- one day off, one day with 60 mins cardio and 30-60 mins strength (not always achieved)

You are getting close. The first 3 days were the hardest for me on pre-op. Once you get past this though it's not so hard.

Hi all. I'm 5'5". My surgery was in Feb. Started at 221 now I'm 171. I've actually gained 1 1/2 pounds over the last week or so.

I think I'm medium framed.

My goal is 160 size 12 or where ever that weight lands me. I currently wear 14 and some 12's. I want to be comfortably in a 12. I started as a 16/18.

I've just started working out in the last two weeks.

Even with the gain I'm loving my sleeve. Only regret is not doing it sooner.

I too have a thyroid problem and I was a band to sleeve revision. All things considered I am pleased with my rate of loss. I joke to my friends that my earlobes have lost weight too because I literally gain (and lose) weight every where. The plus side like you said is that it takes about 15 lbs of gain before anyone notices. The downside is that it takes that and more to lose before anyone notices. It looks like you are doing an awesome job with exercise too. I look forward to watching your success.

I know! I've lost basically 50 lbs and my coworkers who see me every day haven't noticed - or at least they haven't said anything. A friend who knew about my surgery said recently ". . . . And when you start losing weight . . ." ummm, HELLO? How can I be down 4-5 sizes and you not notice?

I too am 5'5" and am considering surgery. I'm currently at 195 and would love to be at 150...135...heck why not dream about 125. lol Seriously though if I was 150 I would be happy. Today, I exercise 5 times a week walking/jogging for an hour, but I am not doing well with dieting, so the weight stays on. I go today for my first appointment. So we shall see!

Doc has a goal for me of 14o to 150. Personally anything will be great. I too am band to sleeve so wanted this change. Starting wt with band was 230. Oh also fello Texas. Live 6 hours south of Houston and visiting my siblings there often :). Oh I am not aiming for 120 or 130. Ok don't laugh cuz what if to thin?? That was one thing that was holding me back initially. Lol. But I said who am I kidding. Let's go for it lol

Im 5'3 and although originally born and bred in Texas til I was 28 I now live in Australia, so.. Technically my opinion is irrelevant, but I was going to say... Weights! Do it! U will be so happy u did! In Australia we have Les Mills pump classes and I LOVE them! Can't wait to get back to it!!

The research is showing that although cardio is great for initial calorie burn, the sustained release you get from strength training is equally if not more important for toning and long term health.

So frustrating isn't it? We have to do a lot of self talk to keep motivated since others can't see it. Also, my favorite (not really) is "you don't look like you have that much to lose". People think they are being nice, but I have to explain that every part of me is fat, right down to my feet. In fact, my shoes are too big for me now because I lost weight in my feet. Lol!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
