Just Went To My Preop Appt And This Is What Happened...

Recommended Posts

My preop appt consisted of weight 269, height 5-6.5", urine sample, blood work, EKG, and a chest X-ray. Anesthesia woman came in and asked a bunch of questions from what medications do i currentlytake, when was the last time i took them. She asked if i took any drugs or marijuana. They ask because smoking cigarettes effects healing and so can marijuana use. She asked if i bruised easily or have been sick recently. Everything took maybe a couple hours. I was told the estimated amount of this vsg surgery is $65k and the insurance allowable portion is 10% so out of pocket I have paid to the hospital $2,142.00 (not including meds and prep foods) not bad considering the surgery is so expensive. I just hope no other bills are sent to me... Now on to patiently waiting for surgery day.

It's so crazy that they book the cost at $65K, when I was able to have my surgery done by an excellent surgeon in Mexico for $6000. And that included a 10% premium for my high BMI (>50), all meds, tests, private hospital room, 2 nights in hospital and 2 nights in a 4 star hotel!

Congratulations on getting ready for surgery! It's so exciting!!

Just wanted to say, I can't believe that they bill 65K to insurance! That just seems insane to me!

Good luck!

My surgery was 42,000 and I had to pay 1333 out of pocket. I am on a payment plan because I couldn't pay it all at once.

Holy cow!!! I'd have to say I got one of the best surgeons in the U.S., and he only charged me $12,300 self pay. It must be different when they're billing insurance? I don't know. That seems like a lot. The hospital I was in was nicer than a luxury hotel!! Well, at least you didn't have to pay very much of it, which is good.

Congratulations on getting one step further!

Yes, it's different Billing INS they always try to get.more. Self pay would.have been $14,400.00 but you know that's how it is in the USofA lol. I am happy to being this much closer. July 5th is my morning!!!! Just thought I would share what happened bc I was curious of what to expect.

Amazing, I know that what they bill the insurance for is no where near what that actually get paid. I also have a UHC PPO and they will pay my surgeon only $1770.72 for the actual sleeve procedure. My co pay for the procedure was only $301 and change.

I have my pre op appointment July 12. I have BCBS of Alabama. I'm not sure yet what I will have to pay for out of pocket. But this year I signed up for the flex card for $2000. I've used it for my payments for my supervised weight loss, mine and my hubby's RX, and his glasses. I need to check and see how much I have left on it. I hope just enough to cover whatever I will owe out of pocket for my surgery!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
