Try Isopure, the ready to drink - its a clear liquid and not very sweet. Also, the Unjury chicken broth is good too. Its actually the chicken broth that saved me!

Have you tried any other Protein Drinks or powders? I am using Unjury. chocolate Splendor is delicious....not too sweet and not a bad after taste. I also mix them in unsweetend almond milk (the one with 5 gm of extra protein). With the vanilla flavor I add strawberries or there are many other recipes of making the shakes more desirable. Also, Unjury has a chicken broth flavor Protein. May sound gross, but people add it to cream of chicken Soup. Also, they carry and unflavored Protein Powder that can be added to something like Crystal Light. I have been very pleased. Still pre op, so after my surgery on July 2 that may all change (i sure hope not).

Hello girlfriday, where do you get the injury products from? I was not aware that we could add fruit to the Protein Shakes? I start my pre op on next week and my surgery is July 9th.

I'm not allowed any fruit yet :0( I went online and bought a bunch of variety packs, so that I won't get bored of the same thing. Some are better than others - Unjury and nectar are pretty good! The cappuchino flavored ones are a great replacement for coffee in the morning! However, I cannot wait for this Monday when I can start eating tuna and eggs, so that I can cut out at least one Protein shake! Good luck.

I am 18 days out and have been dealing with the same thing you are dealing with. I am only on full liquids still and I have been told by my nutritionist, the nurses and the surgeon to do your best and that you can live off the protein stores for a while. Your tastes will change a few times over. Where I hated Isopure with all my being, I can tolerate it now. Where I loved Pure Protein shakes they made me gag. I am now able to handle Pure Protein Shakes, but I can't deal with the Muscle Milk or the GNC Protein shakes.

It's gotten a little better for me, and I was to the point of tears because I could only get in 14 grams a day. Every few days retry something you hated. I myself can't afford to buy every Protein Shake known to mankind and was terrified about not getting enough protein in.

I have been reassured by an extremely strict surgeon (4 weeks full liquids) that I as long as I get in my 64 ounces of Water and do my best with the protein, have sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free pudding, even if you can't get in shakes try 2 ounces of skim milk, you won't be harming your body. You don't need to be up to 50-80 grams of protein the first month. Some people can do it, but many cannot and you can live off your fat stores for a while.

Good Luck and I feel your pain. I forced myself into the Isopure Frosty Grape to get extra protein in. I am waiting to be able to afford to try some of the Syntrax Nector next. Slowly but surely I'm being able to handle my old Pure Protein Frosty chocolate

in small doses.

Thank you...that is good to know. I have been drinking the chocolate but need another flavor and texture to add to my shakes so the strawberries will be great.

I absolutely get it! I couldn't do the Protein Shakes at all, either; my sleeve rejected each and every one, and I tried a bunch. I ended up making my own with "real food" alternatives--Greek yogurt, milk, white Beans (yeah, in a smoothie--use the low-sodium, rinse well, and you'll never know you put a tablespoon or two in there, trust me), PB2 powder (like dried peanut butter--all the Protein, none of the fat), etc. That's the only sort of thing my sleeve would tolerate. I still drink smoothies almost every day, sort of the same idea--Greek yogurt, spinach, couple of pecans, some fruit (when you are allowed), some flavoring. Hang in there. I never met my protein goals during post-op, still don't, and my blood work is stellar. Some people can easily get there, and others of us have to try other avenues. Fortunately, as your sleeve heals, you'll be able to incorporate more varied types of protein and you'll be able to find a regimen that will work for you. For me, this has meant a heavy vegetarian diet plus occasional shellfish (I can tolerate dairy and egg whites, too). You'll find your path; no stress! Listen to and trust your body.

I take GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60. It has 20g of Protein and 93g calories. I mix it with 4oz of Water. In no time it's gone. I still drink it 3 times a day cause it is that easy to get this one down. A 3lb jar is $76. But well worth it! Not thick at all. I drink the vanilla or Cookies and cream. GNC always has good deals. Sign up on their web site and get a $10. Coupon.

Are you using a blender or shaker. I use my trusty blender with ice & fat free milk with my Protein powder & you could add sugar free pudding mix (just a little) to give it better flavor. I also make shakes with Hills Bros. skinny latte powder coffee mix & protein powder. I used Body Fortress protein powder from Walmart. I have 3 flavors... Good luck! :)

Drinking am EAS Advantage Carb Control shake this morning. It is strawberry flavored and I added a few strawberrys and ice in the blender. It is really good!! I bought a 4 pack at my local grocery store for less than 5.00 and it is not bad at all. My pre-op starts Thursday so I started drinking a shake for Breakfast every morning this week and I cut the coffee out ????. I love coffee too. It was challenging but I did it.

I am having my first sips of a Protein Shake post-op. It's a Cookies and cream one that has 35 g of Protein. If I can get just 2 of these in a day, I have met my protein requirement.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
