I am having such a hard time with avoiding sugar right now. I went shopping and in the discount section, there was a whole bunch of chocolate candy. OMG! I wanted some so bad, so instead of the candy bars, I allowed myself to buy the ultimate chocolate brownie. Wow. When I took a bite, my stomach did not like it one bite. But it tasted so delishious! Now I just want more sugar! Don't like that I gave in! So uncontrolled. Here again my thoughts lied to me. When will I learn? Does anyone elso struggle with this? How do you handle it? :)

It's not sugar for me. It even sounds kinda gross but I find myself craving a big thick juicy medium rare burger with extra cheese mayo and for some unknown reason butter :o

Talk about an arterie clogger lol. I'm still on pureed foods only right now so I know I can't have it... but I'm kinda worried. If the craving is this strong now, what is it going to be like when I can actually eat solid food again.

I have had some sugar cravings as well but normally I can just eat some fruit and that satisfies the sweet-craving pretty well. I have craved chocolate and haven't really figured out a good fix for that. I had SF fudgecicles when I was on the liquid portion and I thought they were nasty so that's not an option...what I still struggle with missing is soda! I swear they put a secret ingredient in it that makes you addicted to it! I guess I'll get over that one though since I was told carbonated beverages are a no-no forever! :) . All of the sacrifices are worth it and I will just find healthier choices that shut my brain up!

I'm two years out and I still battle sugar! Just every once in awhile I have to do the Sugar Demon Exorcism... AKA the Basics Bootcamp which I'm doing right now. I've had some hamburgers post op too. I can't even eat close to the amount I used to, though I don't think I've ever thought about putting butter on it... haha :)

Anyway, I'm just here to say I'm normal, I blasted through goal and I'm healthier and more fit than ever in my life. For me, I allow myself a little here and there but when I notice it's too often I have to curb the cravings.

I still love sugar. I'm trying to be a "normal" person, so I have a treat or two a week. I don't keep sweets in the house, don't eat unplanned Snacks (most of the time!), and really try not to eat sweets two days in a row. If I do, the cravings really begin. We usually do have Atkins bars in the house, and I will occasionally have one, but I've had to really limit those, too. I do eat 4 bariatric calcium chews a day, as prescribed by my nutritionist. It bothers me that I'm keeping the sweet tooth going with them, but hey, just following orders!!! I prayed that I would hate sweets after my surgery, but, alas, I still love them.

No worries bro. Those cravings will lessen. I'm about a month out and five guys isn't as appealing as it was a week or 2 out.

I found my fix for my demons. Because lord knows I love me some sweets (Brownie Sunday Please). Atkins bars. They are sweet. Around 150 calories on average, and like 3 net carbs at most. So I indulge when my body tells me I need sweets... Ie TOM. Just trying to do it the healthiest way I can. Before I would've grabbed a pack of Cookies and a big glass of milk and eaten like 10...

Check his videos out and subscribe if u like it.

Try eating/drinking some beef broth, close your eyes and imagine your eating that burger. :)

I would also suggest keeping busy. I find myself thinking like this and I snap out of it when I get busy.

Trust me, that beef will hurt going down. :(

My darn TOM still refuses to let me forget about chocolate. :(

What I crave most of the time is salty and/or crunchy Snacks, like Cheetos or Lays. Thing is, I've never been a big salt eater! I don't even use salt when cooking, and if I do it's seasoning salt. No idea why I'm craving salt so much.

I'm still fighting the sugar battle. I wish I would have never let myself slide so many days in a row and get my body re-addicted to it! My actions have caused an almost 2-month stall so that's been very discouraging and I totally let myself down. I didn't have any cravings really before I let sugar creep back in my diet...evil EVIL sugar. I know this journey isn't meant to be an easy fix and this goes to show we still have to make good choices and use our sleeve as a tool to help us lose the weight.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
