so the clinic gave me my pre-op diet that I have to start 14 days before surgery. I am allergic to all artificial sweetners so I can't have most of the stuff they normally tell their patients to have. aspartame gives me migranes and has a nasty after taste. sucrolous makes me live on the toilet. I can have a small amount but not in the quantity I need to take in the pre-op and post-op liquid diets. I have a feeling that when this is all over I will never want to eat these foods again!

breakfast: Protein powder mixed with milk and 1/2 cup nsa applesauce

snack: 1 cup V8

Lunch: Protein Powder mixed in Water

snack: Protein Powder in milk and a cheese stick

Dinner: Protein powder in milk and 1 cup chicken broth

snack: 1/2 cup nsa applesauce and 1 hard boiled egg

they did say that I actually should drink 2.5 cups of broth each day in order to get enough sodium. I'm on lithium, so I need a higher salt intake than others would. will probably add 1 cup of broth for lunch since i'll be doing most of these meals at work.

I did try powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, which does have sucralose. it's really good, but afraid it will bother me eventually. have a few more samples so we'll see.

ugh! can't wait for this to be all over so that I can just eat normal foods!

Just a suggestion....try to go into this phase with a positive attitude...I started my pre-op 1 week early, mainly because I'd gained "stress" weight and I was motivated to losing it asap....so I had my first weigh in this morning, down 11 pounds already...so now I'm all in, lol....

Dont go into thinking about what you cant have, but your choices....I'm sure if you research, you can find a Protein you are able to digest for 14 days to get through this period....

just my opinion...take it or dump it

I agree that attitude can help and/or hurt. Having said that, I found out on the 9th that I have to have my band out. Didn't see that coming! AND surgery is on the 4th and I was advised that I should convert to the sleeve, which is what I'm doing. Yikes!! So to say that my attitude sucked at the beginning would be an understatement. I was pissed. After getting my head on straight, I'm in a better place.

Anyway, as to your artificial sweetener restrictions. Have you looked in to Hemp or Egg White Proteins? I was told about the Hemp just last night and saw something about the Egg White the other day. I've ordered some egg white to see how it goes. I don't know if those would work for you or not. I don't remember but am pretty sure there are no additives in either of those.

I'm on a low cal. (800), high Protein (70+) a day diet right now. I'm down one week and 6lbs. One week to go. I don't have a weight loss amount to shoot for. It's a liver reduction phase.

Lots of best wishes to you in your journey!

Thanks littlebits! I'll definitely get some. My friend just got some and I bet she didn't even realize stevia is the sweetener. I love it BC no chemicals, no headaches or stomach problems when I use stevia

The preop diet is the roughest the first few days. I finished my first week yesterday and today am starting my second week. Day two was the worst! I thought there was no way I could do it. I was just sure I was going to have to cancel my surgery. I just couldn't stand the artificial sweetner taste and it was giving me awful diarrhea. In just a few short days things have changed tremendously. After day 2, things just kept getting better. I began to tolerate the tast of the artificial sweetner and the diarrhea went away. And, even on Saturday (preop day 5) I thought "these shakes are actually tasting kinda good".

I wish you luck in your journey.

You all are way ahead of me... I am going in for my consult and meet with a NUT next week. My surgeon requires a 3 month program before he will even do surgery. Both exercise and diet. I am sooo looking forward to it. Probably because it is the beginning of the end of this weight thing- finally. For some reason, I feel better and do better with parameters. I think we all go into this journey in different ways, food is like loosing an old friend.

If you have no problem with Stevia, you might want to try the About Time Protein powders. They have very few ingredients and use Stevia to sweeten the different flavors. And they carry an unflavored powder as well. I like them a lot.

Today was my 2nd day of 14 on the all liquid diet. Ugh today was miserable. I'm praying that it gets better. I'm having a hard time concentrating at work and feel dizzy. Does the dizziness an headaches go away after the first week?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
