Yes, I was. I hated every second of it.

I was put on Heparin shots after having a c-section with my son. I asked why at the time and they said that in plus size women they gave the heparin to prevent blood clots because it takes us longer to get up and around after a c-section that it did for smaller women. I imagine it's the same kind of reason they would do it for the sleeve.

Thanks girls! I'm giving myself the shots. They aren't painful but I wish I didn't have to do it! :)

You are put on heparin do the fact that you are not moving around much - so you get the shot while your in the hospital to prevent blood clots. .Just as your suppost to wear those tight white stockings that we love to hate to prevent blood clots.

Once your home the shots stop, Your more active you don't need the shots, some people still wear the stockings to help them.

5 months after WLS i had a knee replacement with the heparin too. It has nothing to do with being a "plus size person"

That is a very insulting statement about plus size people needing the shot because they are heavier.

My gyno is an a$$ with no bed side manner. He was the biggest "fatty bash-er" I knew. As soon as my son was born I switched lol.

Thank you for posting about this ladies. I was told I will need to take Heprin shots pre-op and the closer I get, the more this scares me. I am sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that my mom passed away in 2010 from a pulmonary embolism. I know I am doing the right thing but every day brings new fear, concern or excitement.

Yes, I took the shots 2x a day for 14 days. My surgeon said that I was a risk for blood clots because of my excess weight, birth control pills, and having surgery. I stopped taking my BC pills one month prior to surgery and resumed them one month after surgery. I had no complications, but was glad for the preventative measures since I have lost two dear friends to a pulmonary embolisms. I did have bruising on my stomach for weeks from the shots and hard spots but I massaged these daily and now, 10 weeks later, everything is fine.

Hey Carla, It hasn't been too bad to take the shots. They gave them to me in the hospital and then sent me home with prefilled syringes. The needles are so small it doesn't hurt. You will be fine. I have 4 more to go. :) I only had to take once a day.

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone else was put on Heprin shots the first 10 days post op?

I was supposed to be but stupid me forgot to do the shots. Guess what happened? A nice blood clot in my calf. For me it was pure stupidity as I have a genetic predisposition for them and I'm supposed to be on the shots all the time. Though my husband tells me not to bash myself too hard as I wasn't in a good mental state after surgery, but still...

To be honest, the shots aren't bad. Yes, you will get some bruising in the area that you get the shot but it's worth it to avoid getting a clot.

I was on another blood thinner, Lovenox, for 2 weeks after surgery. The shots werent too bad but the bruising was terrible. I'm not qualified to handle needles!

I am very surprised they have you doing it pre OP. It thins the blood which creates more bleeding in surgery. I hope it's not the case. I took then after surgery. No big deal. Better than the alternative :-)

I've never had to do them before with any surgery so was surprised by it. I have wondered what might happen when you get off of them. Still a risk for a clot??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
