When Did You Return To Work?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning,

I am hopefully going to head to surgery sometime in the fall. My doc requires a 3 month supervised diet. I have a very flexible job, and can work from home if needed, as long as I can have access to my computer. So my question is- when were you able to sit at a desk, and most importantly drive?

It took me one week to sit at a desk but I put my iPhone on a one hour alarm to remind me to walk for 15 minutes on the treadmill. I went back to work at 2 weeks but only half days then full time at week 3.

I was able to drive two days after my surgery. I went back to work one week later. I had no problems at all.

I know some people have gone back in as little as 3 days. I was going to take 2 wks off but I was so incredibly tired that I took 4 wks. I go back tomorrow. I work from home too!! I suppose I could have gone back a week ago, but I'm glad I took this time to give myself the rest and get used to the way I'm eating now. Good luck!

Had my surgery on thursday 10th May 2013.. drove myself home from hospital on the saturday.. felt good enough to go back to work on the monday.. I am a hairdresser so on my feet all day , but have staff to fill in and only did a few selected "easy clients" so not to over do things and had lots of breaks.. and mainly did appointment bookings ect.. all of last week was like that but back to full on the floor as of tomorrow.. hopefully I wont exhaust myself to much.. but will have breaks and sit down as needed ..actually have been very pleasantly surprised at how great i do feel, hope it continues this way ..good luck with your surgery x

I went back to the office 9 days later. I have a desk job, but it is high demand/high stress. The first day wiped me out, so I skipped a day, then returned for 1, then skipped again. I think my issues were related more to the fact I was on a Liquid Protein diet which I was burnt out on & wasn't getting calorie intake. Once I moved to puréed, my energy level soared.

I was sleeved on a Monday and went back to work, traveling on a Sunday. I was very tired but pushed myself through it. I was with clients for the next six weeks, traveling home on weekends, and it seemed to work our for me. I tell people who are going through this that they need to evaluate it for themselves. If you can push through being tired all the time for the first couple of weeks, go for it.

I am glad I found this. I was thinking about it this morning. I was hoping to find a broad idea of how long folks were out from work.

My doc has me out for 3 weeks but I kinda need to be back by the 15th. Surgery is the 4th. I ride a desk so I was thinking 10 days off should be enough time. I'm going to have help the whole time so will have plenty of time to rest and sleep and heal. I haven't told work that he has me out that long. I also work part-time but the 1st day (Fri) back at work will be a 9-5, then it's the weekend, then 2 days (Mon & Tues) of 9-5, then Wed. off with the following Thurs & Fri, 10-3 days. I really think I'll be okay to do that.

I went back to work one week later. I sit at a desk all day. You can drive when you are no longer on narcotics. I only took two doses of my meds after leaving the hospital, once two days after and another on the 3rd or 4th day (I couldn't sleep). I also never had to take any anti-nausea meds after leaving the hospital.

I'm 27 and have no other medical complications. I font have any kids, either (no one else to take care of).

I am 1 week post op today and I don't plan on going back till June 4th. I too have a desk job but at this point I can't imagine sitting up at my desk for any extended period of time. Reclining a bit is usually easiest for me. And I get tired easily too.

I went back to work one week after surgery. I drove three days after surgery. I was tired at work but by the third day I felt back to normal. I am 56 years old and have a pretty active job along with a half hour train commute into NYC. I probably could have milked the time off for another week but I am so glad I didn't take extra time off. I told my co-workers that I was taking a vacation week.

Those are all great stories but I have been off for 5 wks with 1 more week to go. I physically could have gone back in week 2 or 3 but was having problems with the after effects of the anesthesia. Also not eating and constantly drinking takes some getting used to. I was very nauseated and acid reflex very bad. I am ready to enter the work force again but my problem is being at a desk for 8 whole hours. I love this site because we get so many terrific ideas. I will use my phone as a reminder to eat, drink and walk. Everyone is different and you should take your ques from your body. I thought I'd only be out 2 weeks. lol

My doc has me out for six weeks and if I want I have the option of going back to work two weeks earlier. I've already been home two weeks and can't imagine what I'd do if I had to go back to work yesterday. I'm tired all the time & I've had this headache for a few days now and I'm still not eating or drinking enuff. (not from a lack of tring thou) I doubt I'll stay out six weeks but I like having the option to do so if need be.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
