Had surgery on the 15th and I attempted my own bed last night. Lasted all of 40 mins and I was back in the recliner. I even tried putting a pillow under my stomach for support but was still totally uncomfortable and in pain actually. I have a JP drain so that is kind of a hassle too. Anyone else have issues sleeping in a bed postop???? Ideas???

I've always been a stomach sleeper.. and i was sleeved on Monday. This week has been awful. I'm sleeping in a recliner still to. I slept on my back on the bed for an hour but kept trying to turn on my side in my sleep so it was back to the chair. I would also love to know about this. And how long until you slept on your tummy.

I'm a side sleeper, so I just made sure I slept on my right side and I was comfortable in my own bed 2 nights after surgery. I had a drain on my left side as well and I just tucked the bulb into a sports bra. I had no issues. Of course, I was exhausted, so that may have helped. I had tons of daytime energy, but at night all I wanted to do was sleep.

I think it was almost two weeks till I could sleep in a bed, and even then I had to be careful about my position and put a pillow under my stomach. I had a JP drain in for a week and it is an extra hassle for sure. I have a very marshmallow type couch and I was very comfortable sleeping on that after about 5-6 days but still couldn't rest in a bed. Hang in there - it gets better quickly after that first week or two!!!

I don't have a drain, so that might be a big difference, but I've been in my bed since I got home late Tuesday night. We have a Tempurpedic bed, which I love. The first couple nights were hard to stay comfortable since it was harder to get in and out of a flat bed than the hospital bed. My stomach muscles were sore, but I managed. I'm a side sleeper & the hardest thing was rolling from side to side & getting out to go pee. If we had a recliner, I probably would've tried that, but we don't have one and our couches are not meant for sleeping on well, so I just figured out a way to be okay in the bed. Sorry you're having a rough time. Maybe it'll help once you drain is removed.

I had no problem sleeping in my own bed, or actually the hotel bed, 2 days post-op. I had no drain though. I am a side sleeper & was able to sleep on my left side or my right side, no problem.

Maybe once the drain is out & healed you will feel better?

Oh! I can relate. I couldn't sleep in my bed until night 3 of being home. I slept on my back and put a big square couch cushion under my knees to support my lower back but my hubby had to help me up from such a flat position. Then a genius moment came. Had a new, overstuffed dog bed that my dog refused to use and I used that plus well positioned other pillows to create a reclined and comfy position in bed. I finally could lay flat after about a week of that.

I bought a tube style pillow just to support my tummy and when I don't have my stomach hurts more the next day. I have 3 pillows propping me like the hospital bed did. I thought I could get rid of one last night but my stomach started hurting so back to 3 with my special pillow. They make a Beans style pillow that's really flexible that may help. Get 2 one for tummy and one for the back!

I've always gone straight to my bed, even after c-sections and the panniculectomy. What helped me is having a few big pillows under my head and a few under my knees.

It took me about a week and that was with me putting a lot of pillows under my back so it was like a chair but I was able to stay on my sides after like 2 weeks .

I love that!!!! :-) How much $$ do we waste on our dogs!? At least you found a use for it!!

Had surgery a little over two weeks ago and I'm still in a recliner. Not because my side hurts, but due to reflux. I had to have a hiatal hernia repaired twice (long before I got my sleeve) and my doctor says that is causing the reflux, but it should resolve within a couple months. The doctor started me on prilosec twice a day, maalox three times a day, and I have to stop drinking or eating anything at 7:30 pm. He also said I have to sleep at a 45 degree incline and the easiest way for me to get that is in the recliner..... so here I am...... still in the recliner!

I had surgery on May 10th and had similar problem sleeping in bed. At 1-week visit nurse practioner gave me a wide, elastic waist wrap. I'm not sure of the exact name of it; but it really helped. I put it on at bedtime and have been able to sleep in bed every night since. It feels like it keeps the tummy from shifting . . .it's like having a pillow constantly pressed against my stomach. Highly recommend it . . . (it's similar to a back brace without the braces and it's as thin as clothing).

I am 11 days out; I'm sleeping in my bed BUT I am not able to sleep on my sides at all, weird feeling. Guess it will be a while

I am 4/23 I slept in bed day three when I went home on my back with pillows on my sides and under my knees I was at angle like my recliner. I was only this week, four weeks out I can sleep on my stomach or side for part te night then switch sides
