I haven't gone to the bathroom in almost a week. I just started taking the colace on Thursday, when should I start getting worried

Are you eating anything?? When I wasn't eating solids my doctor told me not to worry about it. If you still haven't went by monday, I would give the surgeon a call.

I'm still not eating solids. Here's what I have had today

May 19

12:56 pm 3 oz of chobani yogurt

5:45pm 3 oz of Soup

800 pm 2 string cheese, with 2 teaspoon of Peanut Butter

10:28pm sugar free popsicle

I now have to take three colaces at once in order to go. i dont do this everyday. I usually take three tablets at the same time about two or three times a week and it works for me. It didnt work to take them one a day. The bottle says 1-3 daily so I just take them all at once. It works!

Chill out on the dairy, #1 culprit of Constipation. Drink plenty of Water or the Colace won't work well. Walk and exercise. I find sometimes drinking powder-form magnesium citrate helps as well. There is a brand called Calm I buy at Whole Foods, it dissolves and fizzes in warm Water, then you add cold water and drink it after the fizzing is done. That makes me move in just a few hours. If you get really stuck, I highly recommend colon hydrotherapy. If you're at least 8-10 weeks out, it's totally safe since it only "affects" your rectum, and the first bit of your colon and large intestine. WORKS WONDERS FOR ME!

For Fiber I eat a Metamucil wafer/cookie, and use Benefiber dissolvable powder in all my Protein shakes. Avocado, edamame, chia or flax seeds are all good sources of Fiber that work well with our tummies! Best of luck!

Thanks, I am only 3 weeks (almost make it on Tuesday) what do you recommend I eat

Just want to bump this post because I have yet to go to the bathroom. I spoke to a nurse practioner who told me to take Miralax. But nothing has worked! When do I get worried I have 10 days without any bowl movement

Oh man! That's awful! Are you taking pain meds or zofran? Those can both cause Constipation.< /p>

It's funny this came up because I just had my 1 month follow up appointment on 5/16 and at that time, it had been nearly 3 weeks since I went AND I have been on solids since day 8 post-op. I asked my nurse practitioner, because I was starting to feel... just very... heavy, I guess is the best way to describe it. I had all these worries like something was wrong with my bowel, etc... and my NP was very cool about it. She told me not to worry, and also told me to take Miralax. I was also on a Colace pattern to no avail. Finally I just buckled and took a laxative to get stuff moving and boy did it ever! I was emptied out in about 4 hours, heh. Felt very much better!

My recommendation would be to use a gentle laxative 1 time to clear you out, then introduce colace/fiber (such as Benefiber which can go in liquid and is tasteless) A liquid laxative like milk of magnesia should do the trick. My feeling is that all the dairy, which is what you need to eat to get your Protein in, causes a backup which even a stool softener can't help. Once you're cleared out and Fiber is introduced, hopefully it should keep you going more regularly.

A few people on my surgeon's support group said Fiber actually built up in their systems so they use Miralax daily. I've used it daily or every other day since I started my pre-op diet & it has helped me a lot!

When I switched to solids I started using fiber gummies and haven't had a problem. I don't think I was regular on liquids at all.

I ended up having to take an enema. And trying to not eat as much cheese, now that I finally went to the bathroom can someone tell what should I eat

Glad you're feeling better! I know enemas are not the most fun things in the world, but boy do they work. At 3 weeks I was still progressing from full liquids to mushies. So most of my intake was still 2-3 Protein shakes per day, made just with Water or soy milk. I was eating Greek yogurt with some ground flax seed (fiber), small curd cottage cheese with unsweetened applesauce (very little, but some fiber) -- although those are both dairy -- your system (now cleared out) may be able to handle that now. I was still doing a lot of Soups with added unflavored, chicken, Tomato, or beef flavored Protein with perhaps 1oz of really tender, small chunk of chicken breast. I'd chew it like 50 times before swallowing to make it "pureed" in consistency. I also tried soft poached eggs, usually only able to get down about 1/2 of one egg. Don't try scrambled until you're about a month out. While it may look easy to eat, for some reason most tummies don't like them prepared that way. Soft/medium tofu was also a blessing during the mushy stage. I'd lightly pan roast it with one mushroom and maybe a brocolli floret in less than a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil. That stuff is super easy to get down! You can also make SF pudding, again adding unflavored protein for an added boost.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
