New To Forum & Sleeved On Monday 4/23/12

Recommended Posts

Hello. I was sleeved on Monday & released late Tuesday afternoon. It was supposedly a routine procedure, & everything I've experienced to date is normal. I almost backed out on Monday, I got a little scared. I thought to myself...I can stay fat and eat what I want...I don't have to do this. Then I thought about how absolutely miserable I've been emotionally and physically, with the weight. Each day gets better. No pain meds since Tuesday, when I was discharged. Mainly because I felt horribly nauseated when I tried to take liquid Tylenol w/codeine. I then tried to chase it with a swig of Isopure. The thought of vomiting right now is so terrifying, that 1 wrong move cures me. My incisions are healing nicely, I came home without the infamous tube. I don't feel strong because liquids just don't do that for anyone in general. I slept all night, for the first time last night. Moderators feel free to move this to the appropriate thread.

Thanks for the update! Congrats on going thought with it! I'm sure over the next month, you'll find some challenges. They make even make you second guess your decision. But stay strong!

This the best thing you can do for you health, you emotional balance and and self-confidence and for all the people that love you and want you in their lives for a long as possible and healthy!

I'm getting sleeved on May 14 (a bit more than 2 weeks from now!) and I can hardly wait. But I'm sure I'll have some of your "what the hell am I doing?" thoughts as the date gets nearer! I won't let it stop me....

When my surgeon came in to talk to me right before I was wheeled into the OR he asked if I was ready and I told him I wasn't sure. He reassured me right there and didn't rush me off to the OR until I said lets do this! You can do it and will be fine,

My sleeve is scheduled for Monday. Im on liquids starting today. Can you give me an idea of how you are getting your liquids/proteins and supplements in? Im obsessing with how to schedule it all in. Am I just overanxious?

Congrats! As far as supplements, I was told not to take they until about 2 weeks out and then I took pill form with pudding or yogurt. I love the Premier chocolate high Protein drinks that I buy from costco and Sam's Club. You will be anxious right up until the OR procedure and this is normal. This is a fantastic journey so please hang in there.

Congrats! on your recovery, it has been a quick procedure for you.... So happy your here! :)

Right now as far as supplements go, my nutritionist said I should start those week 2 post-op. I started my Isopure again yesterday. I'm taking it slow. Yesterday I managed to get in 3 oz. I have already had 4 oz. today. I just take a 1 oz cup of isopure, let it go down & then 1oz. Of diet snapple or Water. Right now I'm just going water diet snapple, & sugar free Jello. I'm looking forward to yogurt & creamy Soup next week. A friend from work had sleeve surgery on 4/10/11. I know that she ate food the 1st week. I know that she is doing Zumba classes already. I also know that her incisions are still tender. Now, I am barely feeling my incisions 4 days out. I didn't get fat in 4 days or 3 weeks, and I'm not going to do anything to slow my healing process. So while Clear Liquids absolutely suck, because they just suck....I'd rather be physically 100% at 4 weeks and follow directions.

I am sort of a bug about liquids, having been through the misery of dehydration and having to be infused with fluids two times after surgery. After surgery you will be faced many times with choosing between fluids or Protein. By all means choose fluids. Your body can do without everything except fluids for quite a while. All fluids count, not just Water. Milk is low or non fat milk is good because it's the best of 2 worlds - its a Fluid and it is high in Protein. Good luck!

Trust me, you will feel like a million bucks in no time...espcecially when you start dropping the weight and fitting into those smaller sizes! I was amazed how good I felt at 2 weeks out...so was my Doc at the two week visit. I think if you set your mind to it...you can make any situation good!

For everyone that is pre-op I want to tell you a couple of things I wish I knew or had not blew off like Wonder Woman.1) they give you a shot in your belly for nausea. Not a deal breaker, but not fun. 2) no matter how many people tell you this you will only know from experience...the gas pain is real. That's it. 3) I came out of anesthesia & immediately thought "what have I done?" 4) people tell you you'll have to drink something nasty for the X-ray the next morning. IT'S TRUE!!!! And it's beyond nasty. 5) everyone should tell you this but I am saying...get up and walk the same day. Even if it's 1 lap down the hallway. You have got to move even though you will be hurting. Now I also had the pleasure (I'm being facetious) of having to be hooked up to a potassium drip for 6 hours on discharge day. Potassium burns. It's could be used for torture actually...potassium straight in someone's veins for 6 hours.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
