Premier Protein Shakes Vs Whey Isolate

Recommended Posts

I love the premeir Protein Shakes. As a matter of a fact, they are the ONLY Protein shakes I can drink since surgery. All of the others upset my stomach.

The problem is that I remember my nut telling me that for a protein to count, the first ingredient has to be whey isolate. Of course it's not even listed in these shakes.

Does anyone know what's so important about the whey isolate? Shouldn't any protein be good??

I can't speak to whey isolate being a 'better" Protein, but I can say I've been drinking Premier since day 5 and 14 months later my labs are perfect and have been since 2 weeks post-op.

I'm not sure but it's all I can tolerate. I took to my 1 week and no one said its a o, so I'm keeping it, until otherwise told.

I wouldn't say that it doesn't "count". The reason your nut would prefer that you have a Protein drink containing whey isolate is because it is better absorbed that Protein concentrate (which is what the Premier Protein drinks are made with). I read an article a few months ago that had a breakdown on absorption rates for the different kinds of Proteins. I can't find it now, but it goes something like this:

Protein concentrate: about 50% is absorbed

Whey isolate: about 80% is absorbed

Hydrolyzed whey: about 95% is absorbed

You also can only absorb so much protein at once, so the better the quality of protein, the more you will absorb. I myself have not had any issues with my protein levels (which my surgeon checks every time I see her) so I try not to worry too much about this. I use a whey isolate (nectar Cappuccino) for my 2 drinks and I eat 2 Power Crunch bars (which are hydrolyzed whey) each day.

I say, if the Premier works for you right now....stick with it!!!

:)

The Premier Protein powder is 100% whey isolate, which is what I use. But I also have on hand the RTD Premier shakes. To tell you the truth, I hadn't paid much attention to the ingredients, though. There are so many kinds of Protein, it can be mind-boggling, can't it?!

I was using a GNC Protein whey isolate it was all I could do to get them down. I switched to the Premier Protein from costco. My surgery was in June 2016- I went thru Hair loss and was growing back. I switched the Proteins about July of 2017. In November 2017 I noticed about a 1/2 inch bald spot in my head. Fast forward to today’s post and the entire top of my head is bald and the rest is thinning fast and shows no new growth. I have had all the labs done and am good there. Does anyone know if this may have been caused by the protein switch ? I also need to know how much Protein One can drink at a time ? Thanx

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
