I'm four months post op and craving salad! The only thing is, is that I'm to afraid to try it :( I had bad experiences with spinach so salad scares me even worse! Has anyone post op tried salad? If so how far out were you?

I'm three months post op and was over joyed when my NUT told me it was okay to try salad. She suggested that I finally dice whatever toppings I was going to use in addition to making sure the lettuce was finally shredded. I confess, I didn't really do any of that and went right for a "normal" salad. I feel like the lettuce fills me up fast so I make sure I eat most of the chicken before having a few glorious refreshing, crispy bites of the actual salad.

Thanks! I'm going to attempt it this weekend. Hopefully it goes well! Since surgery I've only gotten sick twice because of food choices, and I don't want to get sick over this! But il never know until I try!

Just be sure to chew thoroughly, and seed/skin tomatoes and cucumbers. Eventually, you'll be okay with it, but for now, taking a few precautions can make a difference. :-) Enjoy!! Worst-case scenario is you zap it in the blender and call it gazpacho and drink it. It will still taste really good--a little Tomato, some cilantro, a little onion, maybe some cucumber, zap it up, YUM!

I've eaten a salad a week since 3 weeks post op. It contains sunflower seeds, almonds, shrimp, egg whites and mix of lettuce & spinach & had no troubles at all. I asked my surgeon at my 5 week post op appointment Monday if was o.k. to eat salad. He said abolutely & didn't stress any special conditions. I told him I've eaten steak (my body was craving the Iron & Protein as I couldn't get Vitamins down at all), Now it's soft & finely chewed & if it can't be finely chewed I spit it out, he said fine. As we know every surgeon and everyone of us is different. So far (thankful for this) I am not lactose intolerent, and Water with lemon tastes like heaven to me (not much a water drinker- pre-op) - When did you guys find out you were lactose intolerant and/or found water tasted horrible? I've heard a lot of people get this way.

I found that about two months out Water got annoying. So I switched it up with crystal light flavor packets and lemons. Also I drink power aid zero's to switch it up. But there are still times I crave ice cold water.

I've been wondering about salad too. I couldn't eat it with my band and I really missed it. I'm in the soft food phase for 2 more weeks but was wondering when others tried it.

I eat salad with no problem. I started it about 6 or 7 weeks. Although I like eating romaine. or spinach, or other lettuces rather than normal iceberg. It seems like it is harder to chew. Try starting with small diced pieces of your other ingredients, and just a couple leaves, and see how it goes. If you are craving it, your cravings should be satisfied even though you aren't having alot of lettuce. You can find a chopped veggie mix (Trader Joe's is called Healthy 8 Veggie Mix), but I have seen it at other grocery stores too. It has diced radishes, jicama, celery, carrots, broccoli, red cabbage, green cabbage, and green pepper. Just pour a tad of ranch dressing on it and it is really good and crunchy too.

it all really depends on what your doctors diet guide lines are and when you can have those types of food. you should probably call and ask him

what about meat chicken banana toast could i eat now?

You really need to follow your doctor's guidleines. I couldn't eat banana til soft foods, and i wasn't cleared for bread (toast) until 10 weeks. Bread can swell easily and they don't recommend that you have it until your sleeve is healed, and then you should stick to toasted. You can eat crackers before that though, so when you are cleared for crackers, try the WASA crispbreads. You can make melts on them and everything. Actually I am almost 13 weeks and don't even want bread anymore. Your taste will definitely change and you may not even like what you used to love. I could eat all meat except steak i could not have until 10 weeks. chicken was Ok for me on soft foods.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
