When I left the hospital on post-op day two, the nurse told me I needed to start "stage 2" of my post-op diet, full-liquids and mushed or purees. Do-huh! I thought I misunderstood, so I said,"stage 2?" She repeated "yes." I had not taken in 8 ozs. Of clear liquids all day. I couldn't believe it. When I got home and read over my discharge papers, sure enough, there it was in black and white "stage 2". Well, I can barely get a drink of water down (no shakes at all) and the weight starts coming off at an alarming rate. So today (post-op 5) I started to worry, maybe I was wrong.My stomach did sound like a caged animal. Maybe I should at least try a tad of something. Anck!! WRONG ANSWER! I had maybe a teaspoon..no, not even that much, of scrambled egg mushed and what I could shave off the end of a melted cheese stick (we're talking a minute little mouse nibble) with my teeth. That was at 10:45 am and at 6:00pm, I still feel like I have a boulder in my chest! How long does it take that feeling {too full?} to subside? it is extremely uncomfortable. I have no nausea, vomiting, pain, etc.; just feel too full. I can tell you one thing; I won't be eating anything else for a few days and when I do, I'm pretty sure it won't be egg. It seemed to expand like a sponge I'm going to get ahold of my docs office too and ask them if my papers were right. That just seems a bit quick to me. I had this surgery to live longer, not get dispatcheduntimely by a killer egg!

I hope you feel better. 2 days post op in my opinion is too soon also my doc opinion. I was on clear liquids for 1wk then I advanced to full liq. If full is too much for you go back to clear liq I don't think it will hurt you, but check with your doc...take care

Yikes, that sounds uncomfortable!! I would definitely go at my own pace, even if it's slower than what your surgeon allows. A lot of people also have problems with eggs for some reason when they move to the next stage but I honestly think you're right and it's too soon for anything other than full liquids. Hope that eases up soon, I am surprised you are still feeling discomfort from it this long after you ate it too.

Stage two in my post op book s liquids only. Although no longer clear like phase one . That includes protein drinks, creamed soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, diluted juice etc. I don't believe that cheese or anything chewable should be eaten in this stage. I was on this stage for two weeks pre and post surgery. I couldn't start mushies until after my two week follow up. I don't think I could have swallowed anything solid like cheese because of the swelling. I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck.

OH my, I can't believe they wanted you at that stage after 2 days!!! For me purees will be stage THREE. I've been on liquids since surgery on Monday, and they said I can go to stage two on Tuesday (which is basically the pre op liquid diet with the addition of cream soups). My doc does this for quality of healing and comfort. If you are not comfortable, it does not hurt to stay with clear until you are. You only have one chance to heal. Make it good!

I don't know what your instructions say, but stage 2 in my opinion would be full liquids, and then pureed mushies. I certainly wouldn't be eating eaggs at this point. My sleeve loves eggs, but I didn't start eating them til Soft Foods and that was after pureed mushies. Hope you feel better!

I'm 3 weeks out and can't eat eggs yet. They put me on softs at a week out and it was not happenin. I learned to go at my own pace so I don't feel like I overdid it.When I did try to eat softs too early and it made me feel way too full,the feeling usually lasted for the better part of the day =( Hope u feel better soon!!

I'm not sleeved yet so I can't say from my own experience but my instructions for my post op diet are: Clear liquids for 2 days postop, then 5 days of full liquids (can have yogurt, cream soups with no chunks at all, etc...) and then weeks 2,3 and 4 are purees and toward the end of that moving to really soft foods. I am so sorry you are feeling so uncomfortable! Hope it gets better soon and that your drs office can clarify for you and give you some good examples of things to try at this stage.

It's amazing how different surgeons/programs are about diet progression after surgery. I was on CLEAR liquids for 10 DAYS, full liquids for two weeks, puréed food for a week and then finally soft food. I was miserable during the liquid stages and I just wanted to chew but looking back I'm so glad I was forced to go slow.

I have had that rock like feeling in my chest when I've eaten something too fast or not chewed well enough but it usually subsides after 30-45 minutes and it helps if I walk around to allow gravity to aid in the process.

I would suggest you call your dr. if its still an issue tomorrow and think about slowing your diet progression.

I can't believe they wanted you to have mushed food on day 2!! I was moved to mushed and soft foods only on week 4!! Consult with your doctor again and let him know that the food is not sitting well with your sleeve. Hope everything works out fine for you..

I agree it is crazy how all the eating plans are so different. I remember having to strain everything for the first three weeks. I would just take it slow. It will get better!

Thanks girls! Y'all are sweeties I'm thinking my book may have more type-os than they noticed and I have made the positive decision that the nurse did my discharge orders wrong. What we were told in our class was each stage was 1 week long, with stage 4 being 4 weeks and stage 5 maintenance. My stage 2 menu has foods in it not mentioned in the foods list. I believe I'll chunk the menus and go by what they suggested in our class...or even slower. My sleeve is extremely tight! This has actually scared the snot out of me. I sure wasn't eating because I wanted it

Hey Fluff! My pain is at a zero. They had bags of ibuprofen hanging on me the whole time I was there. Maybe that helped stave off a flare. My PCP had already warned me that any kind of injury can cause one. I've walked over 8 miles this week, so I guess that says a lot. I don't even have the slightest limp. I can't remember the last time that I walked completely straight.
