Recent Dr. Kelly Patients

There is a lot of stuff flying around about Dr. Kelly.....I am just wondering if anyone who has seen him in the last three months could post and let me know about your experience and how it went? There seems to be a lot of negative stuff being said and/or implied, but I am sure there are lots of positive stories out there as well and would love to hear a few.

I hate to burst your bubble yecats, but Dr. Kelly is not certified in the U.S. If he is saying that, it’s a lie. If you blindly don’t believe the coordinator it also makes no sense to blindly believe what he has to say. If they did in fact part ways because of their own differences, he will say the exact opposite, don’t you think?

Call a third party instead. Someone that has nothing to gain either way. Call these hospitals and ask them why he cannot practice there any longer.

Gottago,

I am not sure if Dr Kelly is certified in the US, but here's this info:

Also can you explain why ALighterMe still has Dr Kelly's pics and info on their website?

I believe he is. He has done work at USC, so he has to be I think.

Because if they remove it they wouldn't get any business! I know for a fact that when I spoke to Dr Kelly after my surgery, that he was trying to get his info removed from their website and also get the ramoskelly.com website shut down. All those sites do is refer patients to other doctors.

I am 3 weeks post op with Dr Kelly (surgery January 25th) and he was great. In another post someone stated that we all think Dr Kelly is a god, I don't think he's god....but he was good. I base that on the fact that I was comfortable with him, my surgery was successful not only because I survived, but I've had no complications and I'm losing weight. I was not swayed by all the negative bashing between coordinators. All this talk reminds me of my old high school days......it's so immature.

Choose a doctor you feel comfortable with, and my choice was Dr Kelly.

I had my surgery with Dr. Kelly on January 9th 2012. I went through A Lighter Me, and let me tell you , what they offer is not what you get! I told them that I would be travelling alone and I was very nervous as I had never done anything alone before. They assured me that I wuld be taken care of from the time I got off the plane until I got back on it to go home. I was told that I would be picked up at the San Diego Airport by their driver Hector, no one was there when I arrived. Luckily I had Hector's cell number and when I called a lady answered and told me that she was outside in her vehicle waiting for me!!! She was Hectors niece, and she said her uncle was busy so she came to pick me up. I really don't know what I would have done if I did not have that phone number. I was taken across the border to a Casino/Hotel (was supposed to be a 5 star, but clearly it was not) . They gave me a room on the first floor which opened up to a very noisy Casino floor. The noise was so bad, right until 5AM. That next morning I was taken to the hospital for my surgery. It was not a real hospital like the ones in Canada, but the staff were very attentive and helpful. Thank goodness for Google Translator on my laptop as the staff ,except for the cleaning man, could not speak English.

There were about 6 patients on the floor, 3 with Dr. Kelly and 3 with Dr. Garcia. Dr. Kellys patients were not vomitting and we all seemed to be recovering at a very fast pace compared to the continuous vomitting and ill feeling of the other 3 on the floor. Dr. Garcia is relatively new at this surgery compared to the thousands of surgeries of this type that Dr. Kelly has performed.

When I spoke to Dr. Kelly about the hotel that I was put in, he , himself, arranged to have me go to a different hotel, (5 star this time), for my last few days of my recovery. He even came to the hotel to check on me and for a visit. (on his day off!) He even offered to take me shopping, as I was too nervous to go alone.

A Lighter Me said I would have a advocate in Mexico to take me shopping, or anything else that I would need. Not at any time was there an advocate to help me. They also say that if you are travelling with a companion, that the companion will have a bed to stay in at the hospital. This is also untrue. For the people who did come with a companion, they ended up sleeping on a chair in the room.

I would definitely chose Dr. Kelly for the Sleeve surgery. Now that he is not going through the "co-ordinators" any more , and running this service himself, I know that your sugery experience with him would be wonderful. He also gave me his email address, his personal cell number and his office cell number. He even has his own web site now, www.wlsclinic.com , take a look and see the difference in what he offers and what A Lighter Me offers as far as hospital and hotel accomadations. I hope this has helped if you had any questions.

Thank you for your post. He was awesome to me also.

Thanks sooo much for all the info!! Can anyone give me a run down from arrival to departure but also include cost?? Also, how much weight have you all been losing? I hope its not too much of an inconveniance...

My day by day detailed experience is on my profile. My cost was $5500 which included everything but tipping $ and if I wanted broth at the hotel, i bought that. If you want to go shopping, you may need more. My sister didn't have any additional costs except for her meals.

Thank you so much. Im going to your profile now!!

My surgery in Novemver with Dr. Kelly went great, I was happy with the service of A Lighter Me as well- sorry to hear that some people didn't have as smooth of a trip due to their coordinators making promises they cannot keep.

If you're concerned that dr. Kelly is not qualified in the US (which has similar standards and training to Mexico) you can look up and verify this information fairly quickly. I did confirmed his work in the united states as a trauma surgeon, I do not beleive he is qualified in the USA as a bariactric surgeon. He can certainly still come to the USA and lecture on bariactrics or be involved with a practice.

It seems like there are some concerns with the circumstances around his complications in recent months- DO YOUR RESEARCH. Beyond investigating posts on here, call the hospitals he has worked at. Contact people with nothing to gain or lose whether you get surgery with him or not. Certainly, whether a surgeon is a good choice or not can change over time due to all sorts of circumstances or findings, but if a bunch of recent patients are genuinely coming forth to profess their support and admiration of his work- he's probably not morphed into some malpractice monster doctor wielding a crusty scalpel ;) it's not impossible there aren't real issues that have come up, but genuine safety issues are usually easily verified or discredited with a few short phone calls to a medical facility, or though looking up public information provided by medical boards and government agencies.
