I am six days post op and panicked about my decision. I had my surgery on 1-23-12.

I am nauseous. I have heart burn. I am having difficulty sleeping due to discomfort.

I think the worst part is that I am hungry. I am on a liquid diet for four weeks. I'm not getting enough Protein down. I can't stomach the drinks. They make me gag and my stomach feels upset afterwards.

I don't know how I am going to survive this faze and I'm scared my symptoms aren't going to go away.

Help.

Did you get a prescription for a PPI and for nausea? If not, call and ask for them.

Congrats! You are now sleeved. It sucks to be nauseous and feel hungry all the time. Have you talked to your sureon's office about this. Alot of individuals with bariatric surgery have alot of acid production in their stomach. It is beneficial to take something like a PPI (prilosec etc) with your surgeon's approval. Hope this helps! ;)

Hang in there... It gets better, I promise! I am 6 weeks out tomorrow and felt yucky for a while in the beginning too... Just try to get your fluids in and keep trying the Protein when you can... The fluids are the most important thing and the nausea gets worse when you're not hydrated... We are here for you!

I did get a prescription, but I stopped taking it because I felt so nauseous when I took the medication.

I know it is so hard right now. You will start to feel better when you can eat solid food. Some things I tried, drinking warm drinks and 5 Hour Energy. Talk to your doctor if this continues. I know this is hard right now, but it will get better. HUGS!!!

Yeah... it's a double-edged whammy--you feel bad and can't take the medicine, and you don't take the medicine and you feel bad. Ick! So sorry you're having trouble.

Definitely call your doc and see if there's another type of medication that you might use. There are lots of different types of PPIs and antinausea meds, so you should be able to find something that will help you.

I could never tolerate the Protein drinks, either. Focus on getting in your water--sips of Water, Gatorade, whatever will stay down. Once you can tolerate the Clear liquids, it will be so much easier to get your Protein with full liquids (milk, yogurt, etc.). Hang in there, sweetie, it gets better pretty fast. You're in the worst phase now. We're all pulling for you.

It will get better! A lot of people experience your symptoms from what I've read. The good thing is you have all of us and you are becoming healthier! You will have a longer healthier life because of your decision! Stay strong and remember the goal! :)

It's just a hurdle to get over, it really does get better! Give the acid meds another try, or ask for different. It makes a huge difference on the nausea for some. Also dehydration can cause nausea, so try to focus on getting the fluids in. It's normal to wonder what the heck did I do, a lot of people do have buyers remorse in the very beginning after surgery. You're not alone!! I hope you start feeling better real soon.

I forced the clear liquid Isopure down for most of the two weeks. On the last day I just couldn't stand them anymore. Too SWEET! i cheated here and there and found that cottage cheese is my favorite thing and milk and other flavoring mixed with the Protein powder was far more preferable. I was and am still bless not to feel the ravenous hunger I used to feel.

Like everyone says, it will get better with more solid food and more time. Just don't do what I did last night. I was trying to get some more Protein down and scarfed just 2 oz of lean hamburger. DON'T DO IT! When you eat to much too fast, your sleeve will send the offending food right back up.

Just stay on your surgeon's ordered phases. It won't be long before this is all behind you. What I seem to be hearing from everybody is that you will be able to eat normal food, just small amounts and S-L-O-W-E-R. Choosing the best lean Proteins will be all you have to do.

You know what I did that seemed to help? Once a day I had a pea sized bite of Peanut Butter. It's just enough to get a good taste in you mouth. Of course we all all different and your milage will vary ;-)

Aww sweetie, I'm so sorry you are that sick. I haven't been sleeved yet, but I promise I know how you feel. When I was expecting my last baby I had hyperemesis and colitis for a solid 6 weeks without a one day break. (I lost 22# the first two weeks I was sick and 70# by the time he was born {a month and a half early}). I threw up and had to use the bathroom as many as 15 times a day EACH! The pain was so bad from the strain. I was afraid I would lose my baby and there was nothing they could do for me. I laid in the bed and I cried and begged God to help. Finally I started begging to die. But as horrid as it was, I made it through it. And look what I go for a reward, my stinkin' rotten #4 son, Timmy. You'll make it through it to. Just set your eyes on the rewards that are ahead of you to encourage you through these hard times. The Bible says, " weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." Just hold on. Remember me and when I am in that weak spot in a few weeks. You drop by and tell me, "you were right. I made it and you will too!" :0)

I had my surgery the same day, and have been dealing with many of the same problems. Yesterday was so bad that I finally just broke down and cried...then my daughter reminded me thatI was waisting liquids!!! Had to leaugh at that one. I don't have alot of pain, but have a lot of nausea. Called the help-nurse who reminded me that the pain meds, which contain codene, make you nauseous. I cut that out and today I feel better, although not quite 'right' yet. I am already sick of the sweet drinks!

Remember, there are alot of us in this together; you are not alone. Today I have lived on sf popcycles and try to remind myself that this HAS to pass soon!! Hang in there!

LAnn and Retired Loser, we are in this together! I was sleeved the 24th, and I swear to you that when I read your post I had to check to be sure I didn't write it! It's 5:30 a.m. here and I'm up because I can no longer sleep for more than 4 hours. My stomach is roiling. I'm starved and sick. I have constant diarhea, so every time I "go" I'm trying to force down 8 oz of extra Water. I'm now having a visceral reaction just to the sight of the supplements. I've tried Unjury, Isopure, and something else. They all make me sick. I can't eat anything sugar free. I break into tears at the drop of a hat, and honestly don't care that I'm losing weight because it feels like the most unhealthy thing I've ever done in my life. This is so awful. E-mail me if you want to call and talk.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
