Will Slow Losers Get To Goal?

Hi all! Happy New year! I am 6 months out, and 60lbs down. My weight loss was good when i first had my surgery. But for the past 2-3 months, ive been up and down the same weight. Has anyone ever had plateau's or stalls and got thru them and continued to get to goal? Ive been doing cardio, walking 3 miles a day. I will lose like 3lbs in a week, but somehow gain it back in a few days. My calories are always under 1000 a day. Usually its 800-850. I don't know what im doing wrong. Im so worried that i won't hit goal. Ive accepted being a slow loser, and im totally fine with that. i just want to be a loser :(

I believe anyone who works the sleeve correctly and follows the rules will get to goal. Some lose fast, some lose slow. You determination to stick with the rules and what works for you will be what gets you to your goal.

You may need to shake up your body - it sounds complacent with what you are doing. How about going on LilMissDiva's verison of the 5 day pouch test to shake things up, then after that - go back on 600-700 calories for 3 weeks (continuing to exercise). I bet that will get the scale moving in the right direction.

Somewhere LilMissDiva has her getting back on track / 5 day pouch test "pinned" on one of the forums.

Thank u! I will look for what lilmissdiva posted! Hopefully that will jump start my weight loss again. I am walking at least 3 miles everyday! Like I said, ill lose but it will creep back up again :(

You might try upping your calories. 800 seems kind of low. It's worth a try. Good luck and keep us posted!

Juzmejnee - I won't lose weight when I only consume 800-850 calories daily. I don't consider myself a slow loser, I think my weight loss has been steady and moderate. But I have to consume 1100-1200 calories per day and almost 90 grams of Protein to keep the scale moving. When I go below these amounts my body seems to panic and hang on to everything I feed it. This is just my experience, but if you're exercising regularly and only eating 800 calories, my suggestion would be to increase your calorie intake (good calories of course :)

Try it and see if it works for you... if not, try something else. We're all learning.

Hey Juzmejnee, I'm in the same boat you are! Altho I eat more like 900 cals and don't get as much exercise due to my ongoing CFS/fibromyalgia issues.

I got sleeved in late May, so 6.5 mos out, and have lost up to 60lbs - down to 253 - but then it spikes back up and seems to barely move. Just this past Monday, I flew back to the US from Europe, & weighed in at 260. Today, it's 256. My body can't seem to decide what it's doing.

It's super frustrating, isn't it? Still, tho, 60lbs for us in 6 mos is a good place to be - that's an average of 10lbs per month. (And I don't know about you but for me, that means 12 mos total will be goal, if I can only keep that up.)

I'm going to try the same things these kind folks suggested for you & will report back.

Hope you will also let us know how these tricks have worked for you (or not) :)

I've read on some surgeons' guidelines that long stalls are almost always attributable to too many carbs. Is it possible that's the case for you? (Mind you, I think surgeons can often be wrong, and mine's not worries about carbs at all, so take that for what it's worth...ha ha!). For me the keys to steady loss are exercise, getting enough Protein (I aim for at least 80g / day) and low carbs (under 40g net carbs / day). So far so good.... (frantic knocking on wood). I usually get around 800 cal on non-workout days, closer to 1000 on days with heavy cardio.

I've been a very slow loser but a very consistent loser. I have honestly noticed that during the windows when I am not seeing the scales move my clothes become looser so I no longer pay much attention to any of it. I know I will get to goal. I know because I still have wonderful restriction so if I needed to I could actually still 'diet'. I'm just not opting for that because I'm so happy with the way things are going. I'm fine with slow. I've kept my hair and had decent strength after the first few weeks. So I'm a turtle. But a healthy turtle.

Have you been exercising? Even simple walking for 20 minutes a day helps speed things along.

She said she walks 3 miles per day.

I have had the same issue. I have lost a total of 47 lbs most of which was lost the first two months. I had my surgery in August 2011 and for the past 2 months or more have not lost anything or up then down. I was wondering what I am doing or eating that I should be. I am glad you presented this as I thought I must be the only one in the situation.

something i just realized that i started using that was different ( going back about 3 months ago...) was equal and / or splenda. It probably has no connection with my stall. But Im just so trying to figure out what happened or changed when i stopped losing. Any ideas? I know its probably a long shot that my artificial sweetners had any affect on my weight loss...but guess im desperate :/

You will get there!

I took 50 weeks to lose the 81lb to get to goal, and I used to get quite upset at times looking on here and seeing people who have lost that in 3 or 4 months, but I had gains, and I had stalls, and towards the end I found that my hormonal cycle was related, and I would only lose weight one week in four! :(

However that being said the stalls did break, even of it was just a few lbs before the next stall, and one day I realised I was pretty much there. When I got down to 9lb from goal, and started to stall again I went back to basicis, did a week of shakes, and then upped my Protein following that by having shakes instead of lunch, and thankfully that helped to fend things off a bit.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
