Hey! Just a quickie from me! I'm home and doing well.

Both ops went well and although I'm still swollen I can see the difference.

I'm hunched over like a little old lady, but mobile. Not too much pain to deal with, more like general discomfort really. I'll let you know hoe I progress.

Hope you're all well x

Coops so happy to hear your donng well. I can't wait to see the final results.......even more hot and sexy..... :) I've also been looking at my body and I have this weird habit, I keep touching my excess skin on my back side and i look at my stomach and I see fatness. I'm beginning to consider a tt too, but which first, face lift, or TT? LMSAO! Never realized I'd have this dilemma too. :( What to choose......

My GB surgery was a piece of cake. Really no pain from the procedure. Just a little surgery and some annoyance.....I was up and going the next day...... :)

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to join this thread too. I was sleeved in April 2010. I started with a BMI of just over 35 and got down to a BMI of 27 in 7 months. For the next 6 -8 months I continued trying to lose but seemed to hit a plateau.

Then I just stopped fretting about it and got on with living my life and enjoying the weight loss.

Now, I am coming up to my 3 year anniversary and need to review my progress. I know I have gained some weight (my clothes are tighter) but I have not weighed myself yet and don't intend doing so until 26th Apr.

In the meantime I have come back to Vertical Sleeve Talk to get back in the mood of losing weight.

Reading all the posts helps to get motivated.

I had 13 lbs to go to get to my ideal weight when I hit that plateau. I assume I have gained approx another 10 lbs, maybe more.

After Easter, I am going to the Canaries Islands for a sun holiday and then I am getting serious about getting to goal for Christmas.

That's the plan!

This time I hope to stay with it.....and go all the way.

Looking forward to joining your group.

Regards,

Bookleen

Hey Bookleen, glad you've found us!

I understand your wanting to get to goal, I'll be 3 yrs out in July and I'm desperately trying to 'finish the job'.

This thread really has been a life saver for me over the last year plus. I hope you find it useful and a safe place to come to have a vent or moan or tell us how great things are... Anyway you like it!

So, a lil update from me...I'm 15 days post TT & uplift now and all the steri strips are off and my surgeon is happy with how I'm healing. However, I have a seroma (a collection of Fluid above the TT scar and below the belly betton- common complication post TT). I was hoping that he would drain it but he said that the risk of infection wasn't worth draining! With that being said, I'm really swollen and can't see my final result! Ok, ok, ok, I know it's early days... I just didn't want this extra swelling to deal with.

The Constipation is better too... Still have to take a laxative here and there but at least there is some movement...lol! Phew!

I'm moving around a little easier, but get tired easy- all normal apparently. I'm standing a little straighter but not there yet and probably won't be for a few more weeks, I don't want to push it either as the skin needs time.

On the plus side, the scale now shows the minus 3.3 lb he removed and a little more! This morning I weighed 11stone 5 pound which translates to 159lb!!!

Omg! I hope that this is 'real' weight loss...if that makes sense! It is hard not to get excited about this all time low, hopefully it will stay and even drop a little lower? Just 5 lbs from mt sleeve surgeon's goal now! Oh and I bought some leggings in a uk size 12 and they fit me! Yey! Ok so, they're stretchy but still...

I'm still following the primal way of eating, keeping flour, grains and processed foods of my plate.

I'll keep you all posted!

Hope everyone else is doing well... Let me know!

Hugs across the pond

Welcome Bookleen! Do you do low carb? That plus higher cals is what I swear by. I'm not really still trying to lose anymore, I'm a normal bmi anyhow, was just looking for a few more kg to go, which they have. Then they come back. Then they go. Then come back etc. I'm not eating poorly or anything, I just think I have a fairly wide range for 'normal' lol. My same clothes fit all the time so...

Coops, omg you are in the 150s!!!!?! That is awesome!! Even with the swelling and Fluid still in there? You are bound to lose a few more when that goes...so cool!! Can't wait to see pics. How do you like the girls now?? :-)

Eta: I should have said, not just low carb, I also do primal eating as coops mentioned. For me it's quite easy and super effective.

OMG, Coops! I KNEW IT! I knew you would see the 150's soon. It's real, I have no doubt my friend! I had forgotten about this thread and so many apologies to those who have been faithful with their updates.

I'm just shy of 2.5 years post-op and I was lazy in my 2nd year and from Apr 2012 - Dec 2012 gained about +20lbs. NOT GOOD. So I'm working it off, and I just have to say how totally unfair it is for it to come on so fast but how it takes it sweet time leaving. I'm down -9lbs since Jan. 1, 2013 and it is only because I've been quite dilligent with tracking my food, calories+carbs+protein. Big effort. Also because I'm exercising 5-6 days a week. But it is just a S L O W process and there are many days that I resent the fact that I exist on basically 900-1,200 calories a day and don't see big losses on the scale. But that is my issue so I need to just vent about it and get over it. Sigh.

This post brings nothing but smiles to me! :) :) :) So happy to hear you've dropped 3.3lbs! CONGRATS! And on the way to a full recovery..... I can't wait to hear how much more weight you will drop when the swelling goes down and your totally healted..... :) My spouse has also been eating the primal way too and his blood sugars are within normal range these days..Now he struggles with adjusting his insulin..... Coops my recovery from my gall bladder surgery was fabulous. Up and doing things the next day with no pain and very little pain medications. It was amazing, I was so afraid it was going to be as uncomfortable moving like my wls, which really wasn't too bad after the first couple of day.... :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I look forward to restarting, but I will wait until after my holidays and then until 26th April (3rd anniversary) when I will officially weigh in.

Just reading about your surgeries and am full of admiration for your fortitude.

Well Done!

Bookleen

I am right there with you. At 2.9 years, I lowed myself over the last few months to TRULY eat carbs, carbs and did I say carbs?!! I can eat almost a bag of powdered donuts but still only a few bites of true Protein. Gained about 17 up from goal I reached easily. Like you the come off very slowly and with difficulty. I have to really do LOW AND SEVERE carb to get it off. Been lucky enough to get 5 off in the last 3 wks. I would truly like to know that once back to goal I can eat NORMALLY but is there a normal for me? Obviously, I've proven that I can sabotage myself and do with junk/snack foods. I get down on myself when I think of being above goal but then I think honestly about the fact that I put on my size 10 skirt and at 5"8" looked good and felt good in it and am sooo thankful. I can remember saying before VSG, " if I could just be a normal size and feel good". I do. I will. I am. I,too, have been away from VST but thankful for all of your words. BTW, Coops, congrats! Jealousy is just under the surface for your TT. Lol.

You look good NannieG. I too have gained some, but have managed to stabilize and not keep gaining so that is good. I just posted something about gaining after the honeymoon period....I was researching the studies that show the percentage of Excess Weight Loss (EWL) averages...some up to 6 years after surgery. I posted this along with some other comments somewhere else, so apologies if any of you have read this before....here are my stats so far:

90 lbs goal (100% Excess weight loss)

85 lbs highest weight lost (94.4% EWL)

65 lbs current weight lost (72.22% EWL)

In one study I found:

The patients who received only a SG (n = 75) had %EWL of 53.6, 65.8 and 62.6 % after 6, 12 and 24 months, respectively.

Revisional Procedures After SG Over the total observation period of 24 months, a second operation to induce weight loss was required in 25.0 % (25) of the patients to develop further weight loss or amelioration on comorbidities. Three patients underwent RYGBP and 22 patients DS.

http://www.medscape....warticle/771803

here is info from another study… not new studies…. shows 53% EW kept off at 6 years...

http://www.thinnerti...candidates.html

72% is not bad in this light, of course I would like to lose that 20, and I will keep trying... but no shame in 72%.

Hey everybody' date='

It is frustrating when we are stuck and having no weight loss. I for one have just got complacent with where I am with my weight. I went to see one of the bariattric weight loss nutritionist and we had a fabulous discussion. She evaluated my fitness pal loggins for about 4 days and said that I need to get more veggies and fruits in to increase my carb intake to about 100 to 110 carbs. I've been in Ketosis probably since having a surgery. She did recommend that I kick up my exercising and that will help with losing a couple of lbs. I want to at least get to 140 lbs. Today I was at my high bounce of 147 lbs. It was helpful talking with my nutritionist. It helped put things back into perspective. It will also help if I scale down the majority of the fats in my diet also. I like to use butter when cooking my eggs. :) [/quote']

What is an average day of what you eat since you had the surgery? I am a little less than one month out. Right now I eat Protein and about 20-30 grams of carbs daily. But how much do you eat? What does an average day look like for you? When did you have your surgery and how much have you lost? My nut says it doesn't matter how much Protein you eat, that I don't have to count calories or fat just stay under 30 carbs daily. Not that I can really eat a whole lot anyways, but it is hard to believe. Any advice would be great! Thanks :)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
