January 2012 Sleevers!

Rather than keeping the old January (2011) thread resurrected, I thought it was about time to start a 2012 thread.

I'm scheduled for January 23, 2012, and just got my official insurance approval yesterday.

I am absolutely PUMPED about this surgery. I can't wait... I'm anticipating crazy nerves as it draws nearer, but for now, I'll ride the wave of excitement, thank you very much. biggrin.gif

  • I'm done!!! I'm sleeved!! It was almost totally painless! Tomorrow I will probably be a little sore. Not taking any pain medications and I've been out of surgery for 4 hours now. Good luck everyone el

I am sleeved. Yesterday I was in horrible pain. Got up to walk finally at 4 am . Super tired. Still waiting to drink something. Hard part is over though. I made it to the losers bench!!

  • Well I'm sleeved! yesterday was the first day to my new life! Surgery went great! hardly had pain, got up and walked around by 4ish, did that a few more times, eating ice chips and doing well. Tod

I'm starting my liquid diet today... it's 1:30 and I have had 67 grams of protein so far. This feels like a good start and it's definitely keeping me full (for now).

I do, however, think I may take a nap. wink.png

Good luck, everyone!

Tenshi: Good job so far! Hang in there...it will be worth it! I see that we are going to be sleeved on the same day! I look forward to keeping up!! :)

I am doing a lot better today with the liquid diet! I added a scoop of unflavored protein powder to my shake this morning which added 26 grams of protein. I guess that was the ticket! The 18th can't get here fast enough for me! I think we are all super anxious!!! smilingface (52).gif

Em, I am so glad that helped. I am with you surgery date can't come fast enough

I have been on my pre op diet since the 2nd, tomorrow will be one week, surgery the 16th. I have 2 protein shakes with milk and 2 protein shakes with water. The shakes with milk are okay but I am having trouble with the protein shakes with water, just not the same as the ones with milk. I can have unlimited non starchy veggies and chicken broth. I am tired of soup. One more week, I am sure I can get through, but I usually go to bed a little hungry. (I dreamt the other day, I cheated on my pre op diet!! I was glad it was only a dream!) I also can have sugar free pudding once a day and cream of wheat once a day. Hope everyone is getting through their pre op diet ok, if they started it.

Tomorrow is the day - must admit it was a really rough weekend - the pre op diet (five days) on top of the anxiety of the upcoming surgery (on top of watching my two grandchildren ages 2 and 10 for the past four days). I am feeling very anxious and out of sorts.

Yes, I have questioned my decision to go through with the surgery - I love food and it was my comfort - but I want to be healthy and the sleeve will give me the tool to work with to make it all happen.

Just want to make it though the rest of today at work - go home, clean my house, and hopefully relax until 6:00a tomorrow morning

January 23, 2012!!! I'm glad that I'm not the only one that is VERY excited.Began pre-op diet yesterday, feels real now, getting closer by the minute, feels like the home stretch! It sounds weird to be excited about surgery, but maybe I'm not exactly excited about the surgery itself, maybe I'm excited about losing the weight and becoming the 'real' me again. Does anyone else have a fat personality and a skinny personality?

My fat personality doesn't like to socialize, has no energy, is shy, emotionally sensitive, takes things too personally.

My skinny personality is VERY high energy, extroverted, busy, confident.

I have 8 days before I start my liquid diet.. What are you guys eating/drinking during your liquid diet? Did anybody cheat on it? Were you tempted?

Congratulations to everyone that has ha surgery already or will be in the next few days.. I am excited to have mine on the 25th.

Debs my Skinny me, is more confident and likes to talk to people where as my Fat me is everything you posted as well..

I can't wait to get back to the real me again.. :D

Hi Heather. It seems that everyone's pre-op diet is different. Mine is 14 days, 2 protein shakes a day and one healthy meal. I absolutely LOVE the EAS AdvantEdge shakes, so that part is easy. I have a huge supply for pre and post surgery. For pre and post surgery clears (1 day before and 1 week after) I have a supply of unflavored protein powder to mix with Crystal Light and chicken broth. This way I can vary the flavor, so I don't get bored, and yet not spend a ton of money buying different flavors.

I am in pre-op diet hell. This is day three and I am so friggin HUNGRY! I resisted when the rest of the family had pizzarria pizza and bread for dinner. We even had company and I just drank my shake. I was proud of my willpower. But now I am so hungry. I don't know how I can do this until the 18th.

emvanvellen,

I'm set for the 18th, too and I want to eat sooo much!!!! I'm actually very impressed with myself for resisting all the food in my house right now!! lol

9 more days!!

My Doc has me doing 4-5 Slim Fast 3-2-1 shakes per day....I have eaten soup the last two days instead of one of the shakes. There are only 10 grams of protein in each shake. I was wondering if I am getting enough. Boo..the nurse said that I can have a broth soup in the evening if I am really hungry. But she said really nothing besides sugar free drinks and the shakes.

Em,

have you tried the Slim fast LOW CARB shakes? I have to start those on Wednesday. 4 or 5 of those a day are basically my liquid diet. those have 20 grams of protien in them.

I was told to find shakes with <110 calories, 15-25 gm protein, <4gm carbs, < 3 gm fat. The more carbs in the shake the more it can make you feel hungry

Debs,

I feel the same way you do in regards with my fat and skinny personalities. The only time I've been in the hospital was when i had my daughter through c-section so i'm scared of going under and the surgery itself but the feeling of losing all this weight and getting back to my skinny personality over powers that feeling ANY day!! lol

Heather, My preop is 2 weeks of no carbs and one week of liquids. i start my liquid diet on Wednesday and that consists of 4 to 5 Slim fast Low carb protien shakes a day. Those have 20 grams of protien and 2 grams of carbs. plus all the water and other allowed liquids i'm suppose to be consuming. The only thing is that i have to have at least one cup of broth a day because of the lack of sodium i will be experiencing. I don't want to be experiencing any cramps at all.

But that's it. I can't wait to see my skinny personality again!!! :)

Well looks like I won't be Jan 30th now but Feb 6 due to my husbands work sch. IF I do it on the 6th he will actually end up being off 2 weeks with me instead of 1 bc he works shift work and that 2nd week will fall on his normal week off . SOOO I guess I will go with that even tho I was really wanting to do it on the 30th LOL

Hello Everyone,

I just had my surgery on January 3rd. Excellent experience in the hospital, don't remember too much the first day since I was drugged smile.png) they checked vitals EVERY hour, so I felt very tired, second day was great no pain killers, took all the IV's off (except one) and third day I went home. I feel excellent, already back at work, a little bit tired, but cannot complain.

Eating after surgery was a bit weird and I am still working on learning to eat very slow smile.png)) Between my pre op 2 weeks liquid diet and since home I already lost almost 20 pounds (19.4)...it looks like a pound per day.

I am not hungry at all and it seems like a get full with nothing...this morning I felt full by the time I took my vitamins, calcium, pepcid and my meds with a little bit of mils and 2 little spoons of sugar free pudding. My dr. still wants me on a liquid diet for 2 weeks post op.

Good luck everyone!

Ela
