Why Is this So Hard? Is This Normal At 3 Weeks Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and I been stuck in the same weight 187-188 for a week now. I know is still early but I was losing weight fast before when I was on the liquid diet sad.png Now that I started my mushies, I am not losing weight at all sad.png Is this normal? I am having my Protein Shakes daily and eating my Protein first before I try any mashed potatoes or something else. I can eat 2-3 tsp at once for each meal.

I am not having Snacks sad.png Just my Protein shakes as snacks and Water. I started going to the gym and just walking in the treadmill for now, I am taking it easy since I am only 3 weeks out. What I can do? I am getting frustrated and I am trying my best not to weight myself daily.

PS I know many people asked these questions but I needed to vent :(

It sounds like the dreaded 3 wk stall. It's well known on these forums and a popular time for a lot of peoples first stall. I know it's frustrating, but hang in there!!

You'll keep losing. Your body is adjusting to it's new weight. Stalls happen to everyone.

That 3 week stall is a PITA for sure! You are doing everything right and the weight will start coming off again. Look for the NSVs when you hit stalls. My experience has been that I lose inches when I am not losing pounds. You lose weight, then your body has to adjust things before you will lose more.

Two weeks ago, I was bouncing up and down the same 5 pounds, but my pants got so loose they fell off. Now I'm losing between half and one pound a day again. It WILL happen and the stall WILL break. :)

I understand your frustration completly! I am in the exact same spot as you. I am 3 weeks post op and have been in a stallfor the past week. I am in the pureed stage, so I am getting tired of the foods, but have been getting in all my Water and Protein. I can't wait until the start of week 5 when I can eat fish, and eggs. I have been craving eggs!! I have started walking some more, so hopefully that will help. I just keep all reading the posts that say the stalls will end!!! Just keep doing what you are doing! We'll get there!

I too am 3 weeks post op today! I have lost 10 pounds since surgery...and I can eat eggs, Beans, tuna, oatmeal..and the other "cleared by the surgeon foods". I can only eat about 18th - 1/4 cup at a meal...but everything is going down well...and no nausea or vomitting at all.

When I went last week to see my surgeon..I was discouraged about the slow move of the scale. He assured me I have lost more weight then the scale reflects...because the put in about 7-10 lbs of fluids during the surgery..which takes several weeks for the body to get rid of it. Plus...I can't speak for everyone..but I know I am doing good to get in 50 oz of Water a day... I know I need 64 or more to flush out my body...but it isn't working out so well fo me. I just can't get that much Water in yet!

I understand the stalls...trust me I have been there... but, I would not let it get you down...just know that soon it will all change and the scale will start moving again.

Take care...God bless!

Welcome to the 3 week stall!! Don't worry. As long as you do what you're supposed to do the weight WILL come off. Don't let the stall screw with your head b/c I know it did mine. And there will be other stalls too but this one is the worst. By the way, I just want to say AWESOME to you walking on the treadmill. Starting exercise from the beginning is going to really make a major difference not only in your loss but also how you feel mentally when things like this happen . Stalls really can hurt you mentally but you can always progress with exercise. So just keep going for it!!

Try to avoid the scale (easier said than done!) and keep up on your walking, Protein, etc. Stalls suck but they happen to almost all of us. Your body has been put through the wringer and it's a little shocked right now, but the weight will start to come off again soon!

I finally lost a pound from yesterday morning to this morning. I am losing inches, i can feel that. I keep reading about people not liking the puree / mushy food stage and i have to admit that I love it !!! I have mashed potatoes, stuffing, tuna, chicken, egg whites with cheese, Beans, etc... I mean the liquid stuff for 2 weeks killed me. One thing is that im not drinking Protein Drinks. I cant do it. Grosses me out.... Is this really bad??

Yes its completely normal. It is caused by 2 things. Your body adjusting to a new weight and sudden weight loss. Also - when you move from liquids to puree or "mushy" food there is usually a stall associated with that. Just keep plugging along and the scale will move.

Ok guys.. Am I weird that I DONT own a scale? ? I never have had one- Never wanted to be a slave to one- I have several doctors- I compare with thier scales when I visit and know I am doing good becasue I can feel it, see it and others compliment me....

I talked to my doc about this pre op and he said don't worry about it- my weigh ins will be fine with him...

Now i'm wondering if I should go get one or will this become a new obsession??

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
