When did you buy new bras?? - Ladies

Recommended Posts

First ... I'm not completely sure I was in the correct size to start with. LOL After seeing Oprah, Tyra & the ladies on the view telling me that I'm wearing the wrong size I'm just not certain. LOL

As you all know a good bra can get pricey so I don't want to go out and buy them all the time. However ... as we all also know ... wearing a good bra can make you look so much better in your clothes.

At what point did you buy new bras?? Was it a certain amount of inches or amount of weight lost?

Well, I am not sure I did it the correct way, but I finally bought a couple of new bras when I had lost so much, that the hooks wouldn't stay fastened because there wasn't enough tension on them to keep them snapped. My bras kept coming unsnapped when I would move or reach for something. At home it was just an annoyance, but at work it was down right embarassing! So I went out and bought 3 or 4 new ones. Got fitted for them at Lane Bryant. Now I am just about out of the Lane Bryant sizes (Happy Dance!!!), and am going to a regular department store where they have fitters to fit you into a correct size. And I love buying matching bras and panties. It makes me fell SO sexy! Talk about non surgical victories, I Love the new underwear!

I am 5'6", started at 254 and my bras were too small. I had gained about 30 lbs. and hadn't bought new bras. I got new ones when I weighed about 205 because mine were badly worn, but they were the still the same size. I also asked the fitter for help getting one size smaller because the store had a buy two get two free sale. She recommended the same cup size and one size smaller band. I started wearing those at about 175.

For me, it's about the fit. When the band started to be too big to support me and the cup started emptying out on top, I switched to the smaller size.

I am almost 6 weeks out and I've lost weight before surgery too. So, since January I lost 56 lbs. I could slip my whole hand in my bra w/room to spare. I know I have a long road ahead but don't want to slack on taking care of the girls so I went to Lane Bryant and got measured (which is where I've always gone to get measured). I went from a 46F pre-weight watchers/surgery to a 42DD 6 weeks post op! WOW! So I bought just 2 bras for now (buy one, get one 1/2 off). They are too expensive to buy more than that at this point in my journey.

I bought them when I needed them, same with panties. You can fudge the outerwear and shirts with sizing. You can wear pants with a belt and bag, but the under garments need to fit or they don't serve their purpose.

For what it's worth, now that I am back down to a DD, I can find so many more bras and have had great luck with $15 bras from Target. Smaller bewbies can get away with cheaper bras.

Oh, and I've lost over 80 pounds and am only 1 bra size smaller, though they were tight before, so maybe I've actually gone down 2 sizes.

Before surgery, I was wearing a 42 C with a bra back extender. After surgery, I just kept using the smaller and smaller hooks. Finally, about two weeks ago I broke down and bought a couple of new bras at Kohls - buy one get one half plus a 30% off coupon. The new ones are size 40, one in a B cup and the other in a C cup. I am still deciding which cup size I really need. I have lost 77 lbs total. I also had to buy new panties. They were drooping down the back of my leg because the elastic was stretched out. Felt really yicky.

When my husband started teasing me that I just needed to tie my bras in the back like a bikini or my boobs were hanging to my knees in a sports bra is when I bought new bras LOL. I held out as long as possible. Same goes for underwear. I had a few pairs where the seat wasn't even touching anymore.

What I did was, rather than go splurge, I found some 3-packs of sports bras at Walmart that were pretty inexpensive. I also bought some of the multi packs of underwear. I've got like 1 nice non-sports bra but I only bought it because I had to go to a wedding and it's already too big. The sports bras have lasted me for about 2 months now? At least? When I bought them they were a little tight (I believe I bought in a 40 and I was measuring a 42.. now I'm measuring a 38) and it's just eased up over time. It's finally time for me to hit Walmart again for another round of bras & underwear. Oh! If you're still able to take plus sizes, Torrid has some cute underwear relatively inexpensive as well.

As much as it sucks, I'm REALLY trying hard to hold out and not buy any regular/pretty bras/underwear. They're just so expensive for not being able to wear them long. I can't help but peruse Fred's and hope there will be lots of gift cards for Christmas in my future LOL.

I am 5 days post op tomorrow and down 31 lbs (including 11 lb loss during pre-op 2 week diet). I have gone from a 44C to a 40C and bought new bras this past weekend. The others were not supportive any longer. I bought only 1 cream and 1 black though, as I am saving the one of each color for when I get to goal.

I've always been sure to wear the right size bras. Its really important, and has helped me over the years to avoid droopy breasts. I think this has helped a lot with my not needing any type of reconstructive surgery and just having the breast augmentation was enough.

To properly fit your bra, you first measure around your ribcage, right underneath the crease of your breasts. Last time I measured it was 35". Then you measure your bust all the way around to the largest point. This was 41" for me. So that is a 6" difference, so then you count up 6 cup sizes. That would mean I would fit anywhere from 34 or a 36 F (DDD).

I ALWAYS try on my bras before buying them. It takes me awhile to shop for the right bra, but knowing they are comfortable and supportive before leaving the store means I don't mind spending a little bit more on the bra. I'm also always looking for deals and getting additional off at the register with coupons or whatever.

*Important to note also, your strap should be comfortably clipped on the middle hook. Also, the majority of support comes from the sides of the band and cups, not so much relying on the shoulder straps. The cups should be flush against your chest as well.

I will buy new bras once the cup gets too large or the straps. This happened several times over my weight loss months. I would only buy 2 at a time too though. Its easy to find the B1G1 1/2 Off deals. As a matter off fact, I bought recently around 6 new bras and now they're already needing to be clipped on the smallest hook!! They are 36's though, so from now on I need to go down to the 34's. I won't buy any new ones though until it's much too large around the band area.

I hope this helps!!! BTW: the only reason I know how to fit bras is I used to work at JCPenney's in the intimate apparel department many moons ago, and even Lane Bryant's. But I already knew how to fit a bra then.

I have always had a "rack" -- I have been getting fitted for my bras for the last 13-14 years at Top Drawer or Bra Specialist. No change in bra size for me since surgery. But last year when I went through my first major weight loss from 260-214 - I went from a 42G to a 38K. I wear goddess underwire bras--they keep the "sisters" up and not droopy. If I can't make it for some reason to the store, I order on Amazon--same style and size.

I finally gave in at goal when I would raise my arms and my bra would raise up and my boobs would fall underneath it and I was tired of it ;)

First I got on the JC Penny site and started looking up bras and found they have a video that shows exactly how to size yourself. So I sized myself and wanted to cry so after being nearly in tears to my husband he sent me off to Victorias Secret to get sized. Uh yeah, they told me the same size.

Now that I am in the right size, in such a small 36A, it does make me feel better to have a bra fit right.

Oh and I should mention that I tried on nearly every bra I could at VS and not one of them fit me right. I ended up back over at JC Pennys where I found some great Ambrielle bras.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
