I am always freezing too and prior to surgery I was the one at the office with my fan running when everyone else was running their heaters. But, I wouldn't trade my sleeve for anything. I've lost 43 lbs in 11 weeks and already left diabetes and high blood pressure far behind me.

OMG. As a Mother myself, I struggle with the same things. I have no problem spending money on my Hubby or Son but when it comes to me I don't really need it or it can wait or... You get the point.
I have started having my nails done every 2 weeks as a treat along my journey. Once a month I have my toes done. Once I hit 50 lbs lost I am going to have my teeth whitened. I am trying to have small goals/rewards as I progress.
It is fun but also an adjustment. We are so used to putting ourselves last. 2012 is the time to change all of that.

I am 9 days post-op and can feel tension rising the past 2 days. I have enjoyed being at home and having some flexible time. My job is extremely stressful so having surgery was a break from being all things to all people - or at least this is how I was feeling before surgery. I find myself dreading (and resenting) the return to work on Thursday, the same way I do most Sundays before the start of the work week on Mondays.
Going through the process of being sleeved has given me an opportunity to reassess the journey that led to where I am at now. For me, I will work to make changes that allow me to have more of myself. This may mean trading in a high paying job for one that is less stressful.
I'm not sure if this resonates with you at all, but it seems that stressful jobs is something we have in common.

    Hello,
I am having surgery this week and have also dealt with both good & bad reactions from some of my co-workers. My family is very supportive thank Goodness and most of my co-workers as well. But, there's one that told me not to do this, that I was having elective surgery and that I should just join her at the gym 3 x a week instead. She told me that I should just diet etc. I told her that I had done all of the research, this was Dr. supported and insurance approved and that I had prayed about it, etc. God has been there every step of the way and will continue to be. Also, I have lost and gained over the past 20 years and it has gotten me where I am today. Nowhere.
I made this decision (an informed one) after 6 months of researching every option prior to ever going to a seminar, etc. I am ready to move onto the next chapter of my life and leave these co-morbidities behind. The pre-diet is rough but each day it gets easier. I know in my heart that I am doing the right thing.
Go with your gut, trust your instincts. You are the one that has to take this journey. Everyone has weaknesses, mine is food. My friend (the one with the advice) smokes 1-2 packs a day but is rail thin. You can be thin and still not be healthy. I am doing this for my overall health. Sure, it will be nice to buy something off the rack in a regular deparment store but that is not the reason I am doing this surgery.
I want to live and be here to see my son graduate, get married and hold my grandkids in my lap. I just keep the end goal in mind when some days are rougher than others and keep God at the forefront of my mind and He has never failed me.
Best of luck to you and hope to see you on the loser's bench. I'll save you a seat.

    Hello there,
I have been lurking the past couple of weeks on here but it was your post that made me register. I too am having the sleeve surgery but on September 6th. I am on day two of my 2-week pre-op diet and have had some of the same feelings you are experiencing. I did the research, went to the seminar, did ALOT of praying and every step of the way God has removed any obstacles. I was approved 2 weeks to the day after attending the seminar and for me, at least, it seems as if this is God's will.

It is difficult maintaining this pre-op diet and I had horrible headaches yesterday. But, I am praying for God to give me relief from them and the strength to continue because I know it will all be worth it. I have a young child as well and can already see the things that I am missing out on with him. Before kids I dreamed of taking them to amusement parks and Water parks and playing ball in the yard but with my present weight I am not able to go to amusement parks and I am too tired to play ball in the yard.

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in January and also have diabetes. For me, this surgery will offer me the tool I need to control the amount I eat and help me to get healthy again. It won't take away my arthritis but I can imagine that the weight loss will definitely help my joints, etc.

Some days I wake up excited, raring to go and others I think what in the heck am I doing? For me, I just continue to pray about it and take one day at a time.

I don't know if this helps or not, I hope it does. But, you have to make the decision for yourself. My doctor said it best, it is scary to have surgery, bad things can happen but what's even scarier is to do nothing at all. Because then, bad things will happen. Just pray about it and go with your heart.

    Take care.
