This is weird, but did anyone ask...

Recommended Posts

To see the portion of the stomach they took out? I'm sorry, but I'm really weird that way. Just curious.

On another note: I am so very grateful for this forum. My first appt. with the surgeon is on the 20th of September. I have a PPO and all they require is a psych eval and a record of past diets. I hope is goes smoothly and quickly.

LOL I asked. But you are so out if it after surgery you might not remeber seeing it like me. So ask your surgeon to take a photo of it, they will!

Well, I didn't ask to see it so I'm not sure if he would've let me if I did ask.

That said, I remember awhile ago someone posted on here that they asked their Surgeon if they could actually keep it... like in a Mason jar or something. I don't think they were able to... LOL

Good luck on your journey.

Normally they will NOT allow you to take it, it's classified as medical waste and must be disposed of correctly - usually incinerated.

There are videos out there, a few on YouTube, while it's not "yours" it does show the amount they remove. Remember the 85% removal is just an estimate, the actual amount varies because of the size of the stomach and the size of bougie the doctor uses to "form" to stomach and determine the staple line.

I hear they have to send it out to pathology. I don't want to keep the thing. Maybe just see it. I was awake for my knee surgery and watched it on the screen above. I was awake for my C-section as well. They showed me what they took out that time ;)

I'm hoping the process goes smoothly. It's hell waiting for this first appointment! I want to get this going!

I did ask the surgeon to bring it in after, but he said he couldn't do it. Had to be sent off to pathology.

I did not want to see mine, but my hubby and my mom did. I was so zonked out I would not have even remembered looking at the thing. But hey it is worth a shot to ask.

My surgeon gave me a picture of mine. And now, you wonderful people gave me the idea to post it on my blog. I'll have to do that sometime this weekend. Thanks!

I asked my surgeon if I could have my stomach,(to make a coin purse out of!) and a video of the surgery, but he said no to both. I do have a friend in New Zealand whose doctor gave her the stomach in a jar of formaldehyde.

LOL! This post and the replies are funny.

How does that size stomach, thinking all of ours is about the same size, hold all the food I can eat at one setting? I guess this is the non-stretched version - I am surprised at the size.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
