Hey ... I'm from the Boston area too, the South Shore. I was sleeved at BIDMC on July 20th, so far I'm down 57 lbs. How are you

doing since surgery? Where did you have yours done?

Hi there! Great to hear from someone in the area. I just North of Boston. I was sleeved August 8th in Tijuana, Mexico (believe it or not). My starting BMI was under 35 with no other health problems, so getting it done here wasn't really an option. Everything has been going great so far and I've lost 36 lbs already. You are doing fantastic! How was you recovery?

Hi There! I live north of boston and am planning on having surgery at Lahey in Burlington *hopefully* in December. It's been a long slow process with them but I think it's been good or me, mentally. Great to hear from some locals who are doing so well! Lahey has only done 5 of these procedures for the purpose of weight loss (but they say lots and lots for other reasons like ulcers and stomach cancer!) Any advice for pre-sleevers? I'm so happy I read up before I ended up going with the lap-band...sleevers seem much much happier.

Hi Jenni3366! Wow, I live like 5 min. from the Lahey clinic in Burlington. Actually my husband goes there for a shoulder injury. I would be happy to answer any and all questions you may have, keeping in mind I'm only two months out. I'd be more than happy to get together with you for a coffee or something too. I know I had tons of questions and worries before my surgery. Whatever works for you. Feel free to PM me.

How's the pre-op going? I am from the Seacoast of New Hampshire- just up the road from you and I was sleeved 10-13-11 by Dr Looser at Portsmouth Hosp. Great program/ great care BTW. We should have a regional get together- there's another gal here who just sleeved this month at Brigham's.

eh...ok, I gained weight in my 3 months supervised diet UGHHH, but I'm back down to where I was at consultation. My last meeting the NP said I'm "not ready" and she was probably right...but I so want to be ready! I am so in fora regional get together! How are you feeling, a little over a week out?

Hey, if this was easy, we would not need surgery!! My pre-op process took 9 mths (6 mths of that was an insurance requirement) so just be patient- if it is right for you, IT WILL HAPPEN. A year or 2 from now when you are thin and fit, the delay won't have mattered at all. My program coordinator gave me some great advise- To enjoy the journey since this is truely a once in a lifetime experience, to just savor it.

To be honest, I really do feel great!! The first few days were pretty unpleasant, but I have seen positive progress with each passing day. I took off work 2 1/2 weeks but I do feel like I could go back on Monday. I just won't tell them that! I still have to work on getting the Protein and fluids in- it seems at the end of the day I have accomplished one of the other but not both. My surgeon said not to worry about it- I'll get there, I am just still a little swollen. I am walking about 3 miles day but slowly, and in three divided times- not something I will be able to do once I go back to work, so I will have to figure something eles out. I am not fond of excercise!!

I am up for a get together- let's figure it out!

THANK YOU that helps, I'm learningt o let go of the guilt and frustration and just get on with it! Glad you're doing well!

To New Start & Broadway Baby: Do you happen to remember how many vsg's your hospital has done? I'm getting a little nervouse about that fact that my hospital has only done FIVE, and am wondering if I should look into a different hospital where they have more experience doing them.

I'm from Somerville and am getting sleeved on Nov 1 with Dr Sandor at Lawrence memorial hospital in Medford. I have heard great things about him, I hope I am another of his success stories.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
