Recently Sleeved and wondering about calorie intake

Recommended Posts

Hi All-

I was sleeved on June 15, 2011. Yippee! I'm now on liquids, Soups, yougurt, ect. I am able to "eat" about 1/4 cup three times a day, but am only taking in about 100-200 calories per day. Did anyone else have concerns about the lack of calories and Protein? I tried a Protein Drink, but the fake sweetners give me horrible diarrhea. I'm worried my body might start using my lean muscle for energy instead of my fat. Any suggestions or thoughts?

It definitely is hard at first. I know I wasn't getting all my calories in until I started mushies. I couldn't tolerate the Protein Shakes either (still can't). Just hang in there, you will be able to get your Protein in soon. Just try to eat your protein first, no matter what form it is. Good luck!!smile.gif

Thanks for your reply. I feel better knowing it is going to improve over time.

It will definitely get better!

Also- your diarrhea may not be because of the sweeteners- I had diarrhea for the first two weeks and then it cleared up. I am ot keen on artificial sweeteners at all but I encourage you to keep trying as the Protein drinks are an important way to get the Protein I got used to the sucralose.. Another way would be to get unflavored protein - powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has it and mix some into your yogurt and Soup. The Unjury chicken Soup is great- it is a mainstay for me at 21 grams of protein. However- I suggest adding more water- I use 12-16 ounces- helps with the Fluid totals and makes it less salty. If you are able to get some Protein Drinks in that will boost your calories AND your protein. You are in this for the long haul and for me the chemistry of high protein , low carbs, and lots of Water has wrked beautifully and it is important not to leave any part out.

Ideas-add milk to your soups- that adds protein, and also calories. Add a dollop of greek yogurt to a spicy or savory soup- it is like sour cream. Have full fat yogurt- you need to nourish yourself and that is NOT enough calories. It is so tempting without the hunger to just let yourself have that little and think it will mean bigger numbers, but the sooner you get the habits and the chemical flow of wieght loss in to place the better- and the sooner you will have the energy to kick butt work out! Don't let your body start consuming itself.

Hi,

Your concerns are normal and your o.k... I was told over & over that the first 6 weeks you are in the healing stage and its o.k. to not hit your protein target.. my only advise would be please dont try to force yourself to eat just to hit protien target..I did that and it was very, very, stupid of me...

Congrats on your sleeve!!!

Thanks for the suggestions and support. I tried a different Protein shake with stevia and this seems to be better tolerated. I also added it to my Fage yogurt and made a yogurt/protein shake. I am worried about my Protein intake because I want to start excercising again and need the energy. I'll give the unjury chicken Soup a try.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
