To Be Thin 2011 got a reaction from TroyChurch in 6 Weeks Post-Op And Regretting The Surgery
    Hello!
I had bouts with nauseous that were incredible....Mine started about week 3 and did not quit until week 9. I could find no rhyme or reason, it could hit me in the morning, noon or night, before I ate or after I ate - there was nothing I could put any connection to... I felt that I possibly overate, but then it would happen with just a protien shake in my tummy. I thought possibly a connection with too much gas, but I really dont know. I do know when it hit me it was incredible... there were times I literally had to lay on the bathroom floor as I was so sickly feeling, I described it to my doc as "I was moving like on a boat", the room was not moving, I was moving, the feeling in my gut was incredible ~ I did not know if I was going to vomit or have diarhea..although I never did either it sure felt like I was going to. I would have the cold sweats, could not get air... It could happen once a day, 3 times a day or I could go a couple days without an attack... I didnt call it nauseous, I called it an attack... there may even be old posts that I did when this was happening to me. They rescoped my sleeve, they ran different tests, -- no medical reason why this was happening to me...The doc told me to stop trying to push the protien in me, and to only eat when I was hungry... I always was on prescription previcid, the doc added a stomach calming pill to take 1/2 b/4 I ate.... I have no idea if I just needed time for things to calm down, or if I was still trying to overeat in order to get my protien.. no idea but, it did pass and I was so very grateful! I understand the thoughts of regret, until someone is literally laying on a floor in pain - they dont understand! I even had to extend my medical leave from work because I could not risk having a nauseous attack at work...
For me....I have no regrets, as bad as my nauseous was I love what the sleeve has allowed me to do, finally, lose wieght...
Good Luck, hopefully better days are ahead for you...

    Any regret????? ABSOULUTLEY - Everyday
Every day I regret that I lived so many years miserably eating out of control. Every day I regret the heartbreak that I suffered by peoples cruel words, thoughts and looks towards me and my obesity.
Every day I regret that I did not make the choice to have WLS sooner.
You may read this and feel I am full of regret, and maybe I am .... however... I also am thankful Every day that I "woke up" and made the personal choice to get help with the battle against obesity. I am thankful that somehow I made the decision to have WLS, and chose the sleeve. I am thankful that for once in my life I am finally focused on eating healthy, daily exercise.
WLS is a very personal choice,,, for me, my biggest regret is that I took so long to realize it was the right choice.
My best wishes to all on this link, no harm should be intended on choosing to post your opinion.

To Be Thin 2011 got a reaction from Sleeved&Hopeful in 8 Mos Out .. Still Hungry.. Why!?
    Hello!
I can totally relate to your post! I also eat, get full quickly and then 1 1/2 hours later I am starving again. It is so darn hard!
And to read others post that they have to remind themselves to eat... OH.. makes me cringe! I still am fighting off my hunger, the sleeve has totally helped me stop eating so much at one time, however, it has not taken away my hunger like it has some. With this being said, the only little advise I can give you is the liquids, if my will power is strong that day, when I start getting hungry 1 1/2 hours after eating, I hurry and mix a crystal light & water and I will not let myself eat until I finish 20 oz of liquid... Somedays it is hard! Nights are hard, I can be hungry an hour after eating... I just have to keep putting the liquid in me!
I started this journey at 341 LBS... I have lost 115 so far. I am bigger boned or hold my weight differently or something as people do not believe I weight as much as I do! In my comparison photo I am at my 1 year mark - 223 pounds... I still have 60 pounds to lose, I want to be at 160 goal weight.
I know since I am over a year out it will take me longer to hit my goal, but I will hit it... and as long as I am not gaining, I am smiling!!!
Hang in there and keep trying... losing weight is a daily battle.

I just want to maybe clarify this for you:
Translation, voice inflection can both get lost over the typed word. The sheer fact that we do not know you from Adam, we don't know that you are a nurse, we don't know you at all, we don't know what credit should be given, because let's be honest, after 2 years and seeing people post "I'm 10 days out, can I eat jelly Beans, cheetos, etc etc or I"m 4 weeks out, supposed to be on purees, do you think it'll hurt if I gnaw down on some beef ribeye this weekend at a barbque??? Do you see why these type of statements get some of the replies??? So, remember when you post something, we can not decipher what you NEED to know. You simply stated: I am 15 days out. I am still on a full liquid diet. Do you think an ice cream cone or sundae from McDonald's is okay to eat? I Have well over the amount of calories left.
This is how it reads to some of us and this might clear up why you got the reaction/replies: I'm 15 days out, supposed to be a on full liquid diet, I want to eat ice cream because I have the calorie allotment for the day. NOT, I'm 15 days out, feeling very sluggish, need calories, and was thinking about having some fat free frozen yogurt/ice cream or no sugar added ice cream. Would these cause an issue with my new sleeve or did anyone else try ice cream this early out?

Those 2 statements are vastly different. My reply would have been different although I would have suggested the same alternatives, but you asked about an ice cream sundae after having a huge portion of a major organ amputated so you can lose weight, and you wanted someone else to tell you they were fine after eating ice cream. That is NOT what you asked.
Perception is 9/10ths of the law, you asked a pretty vague question, and apparently wanted a completely different type of reply. Replies are reactive to the question.
Maybe now, you'll see why people replied the way we did initially. Your question was then followed by caloric justification. You're a nurse, you get this situation I'm sure in your daily job. For example (my aunt is an ob nurse) and she gets questions all the time, and they are not verbalized properly, or the patient can not communicate properly, or via email replies she says she just sits there and wonders how in the h*ll this woman was able to procreate.
I'll drop it at this point. You took the replies as chastising and insulting. We simply read and replied based on what you asked. We aren't mind readers, and I dropped my crystal ball years ago so unfortunately, we can only reply based on what you give us.

Hahaha Thanks! I am an RN and knew my body needed the power at the time. I got jumped on like I at a gallon of double fudge brownie ooey gooey something or other. For pete's sake, it was half of a low fat vanilla cone. I wasn't asking if it was "okay" to search for approval. I simply wanted to know if others thought it would be too heavy for my two week out tummy. I didn't need the spiel of bad choices blah blah blah. LOL. Oh well, it is what it is. Thanks for being so kind. We are in this thing together, and I'm glad I have someone like you! :-)

I'm still trying to find the comments made by TexasTeacher and Tiffykins that were supposedly rude.... I've been on this board for a few months and have never seen them give anything but sound advice to anyone that has asked. Now, others may not like what they have to say, but realistically, no one likes to be told (especially adults) that they have made bad choices. The simple fact of the matter is, this is a PUBLIC forum. So, if a question is asked, ANYONE can answer it. You don't have to like the answers you get, but you also don't have to start pointing fingers and throwing tantrums because you don't like to be told "no, you made a bad choice". Both of these sleevers are correct in letting you know that you made a poor choice in food. One even offered an alternative to the bad food choice. Call me crazy, but I do believe that is what ADVICE is.... 2 weeks out of surgery, a new sleever should be focusing on changing the habits that put them in the position to have to alter their physical being in order to get healthy. We've all done it. And, we've all made a fair share of our mistakes.... however, when I did eat that half a chocolate chip cookie that my daughter couldn't finish the other day, I KNEW it was wrong and didn't have to ask anyone if I'd made a mistake. Just saying!

I would personally choose a better option. Ice cream this early out is just not recommended, it's nutrient lacking, and empty calories. Grab some greek yogurt, flavor it with some sugar free pudding powder, and enjoy. There are tons of better options out there. Just because you can "afford" the calories doesn't mean those calories should or can be lacking in nutrients and/or a benefit to your body.
This is about making better choices and in the long run, believe it or not, making the best decision gets more difficult. I agree with making the best choice/decision now rather than just eating crappy food just because you can afford it with your calorie intake.

Gregin I did not come here to be chastised. I merely asked a question. I am struggling to get my calories in. I thought this might help me. I am not slipping back into old ways. And personally I didn't get fat from eating one sundae. So please, if you can't give me words of advise, don't respond to my posts. I come here for support, courage and strength. Not shame.

To Be Thin 2011 reacted to DoOver in Please do not remain silent about your "Sleeve"
I have given this thread a lot of thought. I have to say I now understand the "my body, my choice" argument a lot better than I did before.
My option is to remain private. I've very grateful I made that choice. I am losing very slowly. I lost as much in the 6 months before my surgery dieting as I have after being sleeved so no one has noticed anything remarkable. I've also lost large quantities of weight before to where this isn't any different to them.
I do not want to be responsbile for anyone else's decision. A friend came to me about 8 years ago and tried to talk me into gastric bypass. She'd had it 3 years earlier and lost 150 pounds. She may not have meant it that way, but I felt pressured. Remember what it's like being fat and having someone come and try to fix you? That choice didn't seem right to me and I didn't appreciate her "come to Jesus" moment of sharing with me. Now, I'm sleeved and she's easily gained 1/2 of what she lost back. She no longer offers solutions to people. And I know there's at least a possibiliy that in 5 years I'll be dealing with rebound weight gain. I see it every month in my support group.
Everyone should have a responsbile primary care doctor who should be talking to them about surgical options. If they are not, they need a new primary care. And if you are thinking about going into major surgery like this without having been medically cleared, that's also a bad decision. Everyone I know, and I'm not exaggerating this, has access to the internet and there are multiple WLS seminars advertised and offered in our area by 4 different medical facilities each month. I just don't think I need to be putting myself into anyone else's life as an advocate for gastric sleeve. I don't want that responsibiliy and I don't think it's my job.
As this thread starts out by saying, this is just my opinion.

Can't say that I would have. I have the best team of dr., nut and case mgr. They really prepared me for what was going to happen and gave me all of the tools and information for success 6 months in advance. I started day after my orientation with most of my new habits.
That is what blows my mind on this site, people are saying that they don't know what to eat and how much to eat. WHO IS THEIR DR.???? It is crazy to me to think that they would not be educated on how to eat after such a MAJOR surgery!

I was sitting in the hospital waiting room today and some people were asking if it would bother me if they held their weight watchers meeting in there. I said .I didn't mind at all (My wife was having a hernia repair is all). I mentioned that I knew the leader of the group and she asked me, " Did you used to have a weight problem?". Like it was past tense. I don't think of it as that and that it may still be a struggle day by day, but what a compliment !!!!!!!!

I agree Biotin 5000 is what I am taking twice a day. I also use Nutri-Ox shampoo and conditioner. I have noticed my loss becoming less and less. I'm 6 months out. It hasn't completley stopped but it has cut the loss more than in half. Went from hand fulls to just enough to barely cover the drain in the shower. But again everyone is different. I will continue to take the biotin and using the shampoo and conditioner. Good luck!

Sometimes I focus too much on the number on the scale so thanks to LilMissDiva and many more here I started making little goals for myself. Lose a couple of inches here, fit into a specific size there, do more exercises, etc.
To date here are my goals met:
    1) Now this was the main and most important goal because it is why I did this in the first place. I went from 20pills daily to two.
    2) I have gone down 40 inches (chest, arms, waist, hips, thighs) since I started my journey.
    3) I am able todo my work out classes and not look at the clock and think will this ever end LOL. Now when it ends I'm like thats it???
    4) At the begining of the Summer I bought some size 10 pants at the thrift store and some large shirts and have been trying them on periodically and as of yesterday they fit perfectly!
    5) I went to dinner with a friend Friday night and had a normal meal, and was able to eat like a normal person. She is a size 6/8 ish and very fit, and our meals were relitively the same size and we ate approximately the same amount and we were both full at the same time. Pre-surgery, I would have finished mine and moved on to desert. We both rolled our eyes at the thought of desert! I even had a glass of wine with dinner.
    6) My family is getting healthier in the process because my hubby cooks to serve my needs and hardly ever makes rice Pasta and potatoes anymore.
I feel great! I look great! And damnit, I am starting to believe that I am great! Haha can you tell I am having a good weekend?

There's nothing wrong with the surgery. It's the food choices, and you can't continue to feel horrible about those choices. You did it, you know the facts that those foods are sliders, nutrient and Protein lacking and will impede weight loss if you continue on that path.
Your sleeve is fine. Everyone has different sliders. I can eat huge, I mean huge amounts of chips, pretzels, crackers without restriction. Seriously, I could easily eat an entire sleeve of saltine crackers and never feel like I ate anything. Bagels still don't work for me, but regular bread/rolls/french bread all slide right down for me.
There really are very few foods that I can't physically eat. It just boils down to the process of "just because I can, doesn't mean I should!"
