Thank you. I was approved YAHAHAHA!!! I should be sleeved sometime in November. I have to wait for my EGD appointment before they schedule me for sugery but they said it will have to be before December 1st which is good. I will only have six working days off, I sure hope this is enough time. I had to use some of my vacation for other things. How is everyone else doing??

Good luck with the paperwork!!!!!!

Good for you!!!! If you have a sit down job 6 days might be fine. You may get a little tired when you get back to work, however you won't need your full lunch break, so you can take a cat nap.

Congrats Shea on your upcoming surgery!!

My update:

- just over 4 months out now

- eating anything and everything - just less of it

- the loss has slowed a lot (see above statement for explanation LOL)

- back in Onderland... YAY

- started running - WHAT? Oh yeah!!

- tried soda.. scary, I admit. I survived; obviously. Not something I will do on the regular though.

- I get the slimmies BIG TIME with too much food or eating too fast (tip: chucking it up relieves the slimmies - NOTHING else will except time).

- went from sz 18/20 to 12/14 WHAT? Yeppers! Still trying to hit an 8/10 :)

Hope everyone is doing well.

I know I dont log on as much as I should. If you want to link via MyFitnessPal, look me up HMD7703

Checking in here...I'm planning on getting sleeved by Dr. Weiss in Lexington. I'm still doing pre-op stuff: I have a cardiology consult on 1/20 and an upper GI and h plylori breath test coming up hopefully soon. I would love to be sleeved by 2/14--my birthday! I think there were a couple of people who were also sleeved by Dr. Weiss here in Lexington, and I would love to hear more of your stories! :)

Hi Kentucky Sleevers! I am happy to have found a group in my area! I live in Georgetown, KY. Born and raised in Louisville. Have lived in Georgetown for 20 some years. My PCP suggested me going to Saint Joseph East Center for Weight Loss Surgery. The doctors are Greenlee, Steiner, Newton and Farrell. I just had my pre op testing this past monday. Blood work, EKG, psychiatric evaluation, and endoscope. I would love to hear from you all about how it was post op and at 3 months and so on. I am very impressed with all the individual help in each area we receive. Lots of classes pre op and on going support for the first year. I was told the test results can take a week and once they get them they will contact our insurance company...I am so ready to shed the excess pounds I've been carrying...Blessings~Melanie:)

Hi my name is Tracy. I am in Lexington and had my surgery done 12/23/2011 with Dr. Weiss at Central Baptist. Thus far, being 7 months out, I have lost a total of 73lbs and have gone from a size 24 to a size 14. How exciting is that!! I feel soo much better both physically and emotionally. Getting my sleeve has been one of the best things to have happened to me.

Hello, Melissa here in Elizabethtown KY. Just finished my 6 month waiting period 2 weeks ago and got the insurance approval letter yesterday. Boy was that fast. Dr. Oldham will be doing my surgery at Baptist East since the hospital in Elizabethtown only allows lapbands. All I am waiting on is my cardiac clearance letter which I will get Oct 9 after my stress test. Fingers crossed, I should have surgery by November.

I'm from Ky. Hardinsburg. Between Louisville and Owensboro. I am looking into getting the sleeve in Nashville at the Vanderbilt center for weight loss surgery. Anyone else go this route?

Also my insurance doesn't cover. :-( any advise there?

Welcome! I am in Danville and was sleeved April 20 of this year by Dr. Weiss at Georgetown. I couldn't be happier with my experience so far.

This is a great site for support, information, and inspiration.

As to your post here, this is an old thread so I don't know if any of the previous posters are still here.

I don't know of anyone in particular who has gone to Vanderbilt but you can do a search on the site. You might even want to look under the Tennessee threads or just search "Vanderbilt".

My insurance doesn't cover weight loss surgery either but I wound up going through vocational rehab because I am disabled. I don't know your particular situation but that might be an option if your weight impacts your ability to work.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
