Wooooooo Hooooo! Day 3 of pre-op and I'm sick of sweet, sweet, sweet. I think I will patent a Protein drink that tastes like a dirty martini!! I'd make a fortune!!! Is there anywhere out there in the real world a Protein Drink that is NOT SWEET?

I really should stop complaining. I am soooo excited about our surgery date--less than two weeks and counting down!

This Jewel of June is polishing and ready to sparkle!!!!!!

Hi my fellow Jewels!

My surgery was changed from June13 to June 20th... I was a little disappointed, but got over it really quick! :D This gives me an extra week to get my mind right and now I can have BBQ with my family for Memorial day instead of starting my preop diet! I am just so glad I am still a Jewel!

Greeting sister Jewels!

FOUR DAYS UNTIL MY SURGERY! June 1st!!! Jewels of June got it going on!!!

I finally tied up every loose end at work so I can take a long leave of absence YAY!!!! (Gee, I'm sure a supervisor will call about a case or a client while I am under anesthesia!) One of the important behaviors I MUST learn is taking care of myself while at work. I let myself get too hungry, too dehydrated, too stressed out while I'm at work.

I promise to put myself, my health and my healthy eating regime at the top of the list of who gets TLC! I know I'm a nurturer by nature but I forget to nurture myself and instead rely on food for comfort.

For me to be successful and use my sleeve to its maximum potential I will establish a eating regime that works for me and practice it so I can return to work confident I will make good eating choices. I paid close attention during this 2 week liquid diet to when my head and mouth hunger were the strongest -- I figured it would be at home when I'm restless, bored etc. No, the only time I regretted that I couldn't have an

eggplant parmesan hero at lunch after getting out of a frustrating morning in Court. Each day I would leave the courthouse obsessing about what high fat, high sodium meal I could eat for lunch & each day I would have to remind myself out loud "you can't have that remember the liquid diet". Those moments were tough to accept I couldn't sooth myself or reward myself for putting up with Judges, clients, Court Officers, Police Officers who can be frustrating to deal with as a criminal defense attorney. Eating an eggplant parm hero, and of course a bag of kettle cooked chips (that extra sodium hits the spot) transports me away from feelings of frustration, feelings that everyday I have gird my loins to go into court and fight for my clients against just about everyone. Does this mean if I had become a trainer of dolphins instead of a public defender I wouldn't be obese? I doubt that -- I guess even working with Flipper can be frustrating. But those are some of the feelings that trigger an eating response whether or not I'm physically hungry. I must soothe

the beast.

My journey involves finding behaviors less self-destructive than compulsive overeating where I can find

comfort and peace.

Any suggestions Jewels?

Hello, kwikwits,

think you should get a dog that requires intense grooming!!! I can't begin to tell you hour many hours pass while I am grooming and don't even notice. I find it relaxing and keeps my mind off of food.

Since arthritis has taken some of the flexability out of my hands, I have taken up crocheting. It keeps my fingers moving and passes many an hour with without thinking about food.< /p>

Of course, there is always a good trashy historical romance, but that usual gets me wanting-----well,---- not food... but just as frustrating!

One more day for you, Sista Jewel!!! You HAVE to have a good surgery and a painfree recovery. I'm be right behind so LEAD THE WAY!!:car:

Counting on you to keep in touch,:gossip:

Curious - did your Dr prescribe a PPI for you post op? My Dr gave me all my scripts but no PPI for post op.

Bougie size - my Dr will be doing a 38 French on me. How about you?

Just wondering.

Hugs, Heather

Today is the day for me!!!!!!

I have to be at the hospital by 9:30. I was still in shock when I called them yesterday to get my surgery time I thought they would say - you are not on our list for surgery....but they didn't :)

so excited & a little nervous but mostly about the IV! How silly is that? It usually takes 3-4 times for anyone to stick me before they finally get it in. I have bad veins....

anyway - I will keep you all posted!! YEAH!

I will be in Stratford, NJ with Dr. Balsama!

Dawn

Hopefully I will do my ticker soon...

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
