Killing their daughter

Recommended Posts

I agree that this behaviour is definately child abuse / neglect. I have a friend that has a daughter that they have taught to eat horribly! She is eleven years old and has been obese since she was 6. They were told when she was 9 that she was pre-diabetic and that she has to have a major change in diet and it never phased them. They don't care whatsoever. The mother says that she thinks that the daughter will just outgrow the weight, and the father complains that the daughter is overweight because the mother lets her eat junk constantly, but he feeds her junk all the time too.

I personally feel that this is child abuse. She wears adult plus sized clothes, has hair that is never brushed, teeth that are stained yellow and the soles of her feet are constantly filthy. She is tormented at school about her size and the parents do nothing to help her. What is wierd is that she is the most spoiled child that I have probably ever seen.

I feel so sorry for her.

It's weird but Leatha's right. There are "feeders" out there. My in-laws are "feeders".

I think though, what the father is doing is he's hiding the fact that it's really him that wants to eat all of that stuff and could be using his daughter as his "scapegoat" for his gluttony. At the same time, sharing it with her so he doesn't feel so guilty in doing so. They are both the same weight and he was insistant on ordering for her as well as push the ice cream onto her.

Controlling, manipulative and abusive.

In the house I work in (and live in), we were going to get a new client who was severely obese and had uncontrolled diabetes. His blood sugar was NORMALLY around 450.

His parents came in as we were having all of these pre-move in meetings, and told us that they wanted us to change his eating habits, but we needed to watch him because he drank soda and ate candy all the time. So I asked who took him out shopping. Of course, the parents did, and "we can't control what he buys". All I could think was, "why not?" He was high functioning, but still delayed and needed some guidance. It was like no one would pay attention to him, and when I asked him if he drank diet soda, he said he did sometimes, but everyone bought him regular soda.

So because of his parents basic unwillingness to tell him no, he was over 400 lbs and in and out of the hospital with diabetes related illness. He decided not to move into our house, and moved somewhere else. Which I am happy about, as I didn't want to wake up one morning to a dead man because his sugar spiked from the food his parents brought him.

I don't claim to know the circumstances of this particular interaction, and he maybe just an A$$.

However, we have to be more and more careful about judging situations.....There is a genetic abnormality of the hypothalamus, which occurs in 1 out of every 14,000 Americans. It is called Prader Willi Syndrome. One of the symptoms is that the person suffering from this genetic disorder has an insatiable appetite...No matter how much they eat, they will continue to eat....resulting in morbid obesity. If they do not get the food they want, when they want it, they are sometimes even violent. Mental retardation in varying degrees is also a part of the symptom. Just thought I would throw this out there as food for thought.

Before we can be so quick to react to other peoples situations, we have to realize that what we observe is often only part of the story. As overweight people (or formerly overweight for some of you! :Banane56: ) we have suffered from the sterotypes and judgment of others who think we are "fat" because we are gluttons...But, this "disease" we suffer fromm is not always because we are gluttons..............

We need to learn to build bridges of understanding and become ambassadors for this health condition which is killing our nation.

Lots of success to all of you!!

Charlotte

Wow! It is sad when the people that should protect their children most hurt them!

Here a young boy was taken away from his mom last year. She fed him fast food 5-7 times a day. She claimed that was all he would eat. He was 7 and over 100 lbs I believe. She was charged with child neglect, child endangerment and something else. She was given the chance to change and she absolutely refused. He was taken away from her. What you eat plays a big part is health, she didn't care.

Thats just discusting what that man did, if i was at another table or the one taking their order I would of been escorted out of there and told him exactly what i thought of him!

I used to have a best friend that has 2 young children now 3 and 5...

all she fed them was fries, potato gems, kfc potato and gravy, garlic bread, chicken rolls, bread, pancakes and occasionally pastabake, chicken sausages and chicken Soup...and in the 3 years i knew her thats the whole variety i saw them eat!

mainly it was straight home from daycare with a yoghurt or puree fruit snack for dinner with cordial (kool-aid) and that was it!

or a drive through straight after daycare and red rooster chips and gravy ..i confronted her over it and she gave the lame excuse they dont eat anything else or they dont need to eat much because they ate at daycare..

i find that hard to beleive since i met her through the daycare they was at as i was a childcare assistant for 2 years and i worked in both their rooms they would inhale the food especially the little one he would have 2-3 servings in the baby room.. for lunch probably because he knew he was only getting a handful of chips or a fruitsnack for dinner..

i totally disagree with with her parenting when it comes to nutrition and did i mention her children are small for their age ..it makes me so mad because u have to walk on eggshells when it isnt your child because u have to respect the parents wishes..

I am a person that is very protective over children and animals so i find it real hard to watch these people kill their kids with their own bad habits.. they should learn from their mistakes and the way they feel about themselves (she had a history of bulimia and is currently obese) to not want to put their kids through that

I worry for her kids because all she seems to do is feed them chips and have them in front of the Tv all day, the 5 year old knows all the movies and kids shows by memory and says the lines when they say them

i just hope they get out of that sedintary lifestyle and get active as they get older,,,

my boyfriends son is overweight and when i go to california next month i plan to do a lot of active things with him and make fun smoothies and fruit kebabs without making him feel bad his father agrees and cant wait ...lol

just education before he hits his teens and struggles for acceptance.. .. knowledge is the key and i dont want that poor little boy ending up having to have WLS or crash dieting..

by the way his son lives with his mum and her parents whom are all overweight .. so i plan to be that positive force in both their lives..

here goes....................

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
