African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Congrats to you to SugarTee.......Me Too!!! I am trying to get my 3 sisters on board- we are fighting genetics and it looks like we lost the battle..lol but I am gonna stop this cycle. Cant wait. yes we will be on this journey together.

Received my approval and surgery date is October 31' date=' 2012. I am so nervous and anxious....not second guesing myself just nervous about the entire process. After next week, I begin a journey that will be totally new..[/quote']

Congrats I was sleeved on 10/17 the best thing I've ever done I'm scooting over now saving you a seat right next to me on the loser bench.

Ok Jazzeeja I went and bought some whey Protein powder from Walmart. I like chocolate but I went on and bought the vanilla...this way I can add bananas. I don't like milk (no kind) so the coordinator told me about this one. I like milk shake type drinks. I am a sweet eater.

I know many people who like Champion and Myofusion because they are thicker like milkshakes. I like them both but the Myofusion has 9g of carbs per serving which is a bit much for me. If you want more of a juice consistency and sweet, try the nectar brand. The have several different flavors. GNC and Vitamin shoppe carry a limited number of samples but you can go to www.vitalady.com and order some samples. This way you can try different ones without having to buy a tub of powder and then wasting it because you don't like it.

Did you get the Pure Protein Powder from Walmart? How did you like it?

Hey Leleboo where can I find them? I went to Walmart tonight and bought the Six Star Whey Protein elite mix- vanilla flavor 60 grams of protein

Keep in mind that you can only absorb 30 g of protein at any given time. So if you're using enough powder to get 60 grams in one shake, you're taking in calories without the benefit of being able to use all the protein. Try halving it and spreading the Protein drinks at least one hour apart.

I'm headed to Mexico Nov 9. Dr. Lopez will perform my surgery on the 10th. I can't wait!!!!!

Hello All, I am from Ohio and was sleeved May 2012 and doing very well, I am 53 year old. My starting weight was 248 and I now 175 and my goal weight is 155.My weight is good 75 total and I have 20 more to go

I havent had much hair lost, Thanking God!! . I use coconut oil, vegetable gylcerine, black castor oil all mixed in water on hair, I have curly hair and decided when I had surgery to go natural and I spray on 1-2 times a day and I believe it stoped hair lost, I found this on YOU TUBE.

I am able to eat whatever I like just very little. My mind is always hungry but I know the difference now, if I over eat I become very sick like SHARP gas pains in stomach and in my back and last up to 1 hour or longer it just depends. I try not to get like that because it is very painful. I work out 4x a week and enjoy it for the first time in my life. I wish nothing but God's Blessing in our journey in weight loss.

Hello....I'm transitioning as well. I searched transitioning from relaxed hair on YouTube and found some very useful information. It's been extremely helpful...I've seen videos about products, hair care, and styling, it's been a life saver

Just wait until you're a year out. Your hair will be so thick! I love my natural hair! :-)

And the best tip I learned is to find products that work best for your hair. You'll see tons of recommendations that will point you in the right direction for taking care of natural hair, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will work for your hair. So your best bet is to find products that makes your hair soft and moisturized. For example, cream of nature's leave in conditioner softens my hair best. I have a 3c-4a hair grade and that product, plus water, works wonders for my hair.

Make sure you sport those protective styles often and trim your ends for growth. :-)

Yes! It's been a year for me as we'll and I LOVE my hair. I became quite the product junkie at first but finally found what works for me. I love black castor oil and coconut oil is my all time favorite mixed with water. Just curious.....did you experience any hair loss? I'm not looking forward to that. I'm in kinky twist and plan to stay in this style for about 2 months then get micros. I'm not looking forward to clumps of my hair falling out. I'm planning to do olive oil deep conditioning and co washes weekly hoping that will help. We'll see how it goes
