African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

I think the approval depends on your insurance company. My paperwork was submitted on Monday and I received a call Monday night. But I did not check my messages til tuesday morning. I will be sleeved on November 6. I'm going to vote then head to the hospital. LOL

Good luck and God bless you through your journey!

Great news I was approved very fast to. surgery this Friday I'm in Vegas.

Hi fellow sleevers....I'm a lurker deciding to come out of the shadows. Thank you for allowing me to find a wealth of information on this website. I am implementing new ideas every week to better improve my chances of being a sleeve success. I am getting my sleeve (hopefully) from SAMMC San Antonio Military Medical Center. I hope to be done with the Pre-operative Checklist November 15 and get sleeved before the year is out.

Trying to figure out the best way to go about this pre-op diet. Currently I seem to only like the Vanilla EAS carb control Protein drinks...strawberry if I mix frozen strawberries. chocolate...no!

What were some of your experiences with training the body to convert protein to fuel as apposed to carbohydrates and what were some of the symptoms? for example head aches...jitters...fatigue? and how long did it last? I've gone natural with my hair and it is short for now...are any of you taking Biotin and is it helping with hair loss?

Thanks in Advanced.

Wow that's quick. Rock the vote before being sleeved <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> that's cool

2013 is my year....SD 11/19 Methodist Hosp in NY

I like that Rock the Vote before being Sleeved

Yes I was shocked on how quick they processed everything.

Hello everyone. I just had my sleeve done on 10/15 and it's already one of the best decisions I've ever made. I feel better after 9 days than I have in the last 10 years. I'm in the DC area and am looking forward to hearing all of your stories of success.

Pre-op, I did 3 EAS drinks per day and would have a Cafe Steamer meal for dinner. I tried to drink as much Water as I could possibly get in during the day. If I had a little relapse, I just started again the next day with the same pattern. I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks in my preop stage.

The headaches and sugar withdrawal symptoms lasted around 3-4 days. One day someone is going to prove that sugar is some type of narcotic :)

@Keda

Congrats and good luck.

I am @ SAMMC too!

Hey SugarTee Protein powders that I have tried and liked are Chike, unjury, Syntax nectar and Pure Protein.

Cytomax sport is good if you mix with water and Crystal Light.

Hey that id good. Did u get ur approval yet? And if not do all doctors let you set your date?

I did not have to submit to insurance per se. I am a Military dependent (spouse) I am going through a Bariatric Program at a Military Hospital and once you complete your checklist the surgeon reviews and makes sure you have met all requirements.I had to do the same things most of you did with Nut and Psych and an Upper GI.Our surgeons don't let us pick random dates but they give us a window. That being said my surgeon called me yesterday and ..... I GOT A DATE!!!!

November 7th is my date which is T- 13 days away:) Now I am nervous.

Kalimom don't be nervous, u got this I hear SAMMC is pretty good, I'm in S.A. from Dallas. I had my surg. At the foundations surgical hospital on Huebner.word of advice: walk-it-out as soon as you can, get zombie with it up and down the hallway it will help with recovery and to get all that gas from your insides, ice chips are your friends.

Congrats Keda. I'll keep u in my prayers.

So now I waiting for my psych evaluation to be sent over been waiting since Tuesday. Really what is taking so long, I must be honest I dont like waiting and when they already know I need it sent over. Ugh
