African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Hi. I wanted to know where you by your supergreens and what is the exact name. Thank you. I'm 2 1/2 months out. Down 30 lbs. A little slow for me' date=' but doc says I'm doing good.[/quote']

Green Superfood Energy

I am scheduled to be sleeved Wednesday 10/30. Of course I kept my sick niece on Tuesday of last week and caught her cold. I feel terrible right now, I can't take any medicine with acetaminophen in it either because pre-op you have to stop taking anything that will thin the blood. I found a medicine that has none but it's not strong like the other Med's. I am praying. Feel better by Wednesday would hate to feel like this and have surgery pain in recovery. No Pre-Op diet with my surgeon so I'm drinking lots of OJ, Hot Totties, and resting up. I am so excited about being sleeved I can barely contain myself...Lol! I'm getting micro braids on Monday so not to have to deal with my hair, not going to do any relaxers for at least 8 months if I can help it, I don't want to lose my hair.

It's the NSAIDs like aleve and ibuprofen that can contribute to blood issues.

Thanks for your response. Glad to hear from someone who started out near my weight and hear I will be successful after all with time. I decided 170 would be my goal. Are you at goal? How long did it take you to reach your current weight? What was your exercise routine?

My walk 3 days a week.....my goal was 155. But I'm overly comfortable where I am now. It took me five months.....

Hi Latasha!!

Day 1 of my 2wk pre op diet.

Good luck!!! You will do great!!!

Well guys..in less than 12 hours I will be getting sleeved..I'm excited, nervous and a bit anxious. My surgery is a double procedure..I have to have a large mass removed as well so I have to have an incision at my bikini line,,a large one ta boot, so I think my nerves a little crazy because of that part. Oh well God has me so all will be fine. Guess I'll gulp down some more liquids before midnight. Goodnight guys!!!
