A bit of wholemeal bread isn't bad, I'm not saying eat loads and don't eat your Protein, but a balanced diet I believe is the key to success :D

I totaly agree, Balanced is the key.

I love bread too. I can tolerate it okay, but it does make me a little uncomfy if I eat too much. Toasting it really well does help me, which I guess you have tried :) I also get those really thin breads to make a sandwich with, and toast those too. I actually don't crave bread as much now as I did before surgery. I am a little over 3 months out now. I mostly crave meats now, or junk, LOL. I hope you can tolerate it soon! Also, eat what you feel is going to work for you. It bothers me when people harp so much on low carbs. I eat between 70-120 carbs a day, sometimes more. I just make sure I get my Protein in, eat healthy, and I don't worry about carbs. I have lost nearly 80 pounds since surgery, so I think its working just fine for me :) I think everyone needs to just find what works for them. You might be one of those people (like me) that does fine with carbs and can still lose. My NUT said bread is fine. Just give it some more time, and I am sure you will be able to enjoy it soon.

Bread to me felt like one of those taco bell burritos that stick and slide stick and slide all the way down, not pleasant haven't craved it and just thinking of it swelling in my micro-tummy hurts. If you are craving bread and feel like you are going to die without it try a melba cracker, lower in cal, lower in carbs, you get four little ones per serving and the way I have eaten it is with...hold your breath...it's kinda gross for some people...I buy liver pate, it is in the deli sections. Why? Well the taste is something to be acquired I like it but then I like eating liver(cooked of course) mostly due to the fact it is PACKED with Iron, zinc, and albumin, and animal Protein. You can also get duck liver which is a nice delicacy, I added it to my miso Soups for extra protein, the taste of duck liver is more suttle. tongue.gif Just sharing an idea with you. I am sure you can find a protein filled spread for your melba.

I agree 100% with you Leesey. Whay got me fat was eating huge amounts of whatever I could get my hands on, not a few pieces of toast. I had this surgery to be able to lose weight eating smaller portions, but a varied diet. Varied being the key word here. I dieted all my life, or at least for a good 31 years. Diets made me fat in the first place. There is scientific proof of that. This is not a diet for me, it'a a way of life!

BTW I'm not quite there yet Leesey but I'm taking it easy, I exercise quite a lot and hope to be at goal by my 42nd Bday on the 13th March! Good luck to you!

I completely agree. What got me fat and kept me fat was #1 my metabolism being blown from abusing myself by keeping my calories way too low for way too long. #2 Eating WAY too much of EVERYTHING along with the jacked up metabolism. #3 Not caring about #1 or #2 enough to fix it.

I do eat lower carb - but I do not stike it out of my life completely. I tried, my body doesn't respond well to it. My body runs on full steam with doing about 50% Protein, 25/25% Carbs and Fats - and maybe a little variation in between. Everyone is different, you just have to find what works best for you. I also work out A LOT and I actually have to do things to keep my muscles from getting too big. I'm just a bigger girl, and yes this is true for some people. It isn't an excuse or denial. That is me and I won't change this to suit someone else's diet that may work excellent for them. I hope anyone will do what works best for the individual.

Remember: You are an individual - just like everyone else!! :P

My carbs ONLY consist of whole grains, High Fiber, Veggies and Fruits. This does include breads if I so wish as long as it falls into one of my "ok" categories. I have only recently been able to start eating it, and I still can't do a whole lot of it either. However the types of breads I'm eating sticks with me for a very long time.

I'm not just going to get skinny, I'm building my body into a FORTRESS!!!! I know I feel awesome already!

I do not eat candy or junk food or enriched carbohydrates. However if someone chooses to do that, so be it. Whatever works for you.

You might like this bread, lots of people who are low carbing, doing Atkins, and even some sleevers I know do eat this bread. I hope you find something that you can enjoy and that will not make you feel like eating a whole bag of bread . The bread has only 1 net carb and 12 grams of Protein per slice.

You could try this and see if it sits okay with your sleeve...

http://www.food.com/recipe/carb-free-cloud-bread-411501

I made this recipe one time and it was okay (as long as I was eating it with something else, like egg beaters for example) otherwise it sort of just felt like I was eating air. lol

Leesey-

Lol too funny. Any way back to the bread. I personally try and stay away only because I am still losing and I lose WAY faster this way. However that being said I had pita bread last night. When I eat bread I have to take the smallest bite (quarter size) and chew like crazy, swallow. Then wait like 3-5 minutes no joke for my next bite. So last night I had 3 bites in 20 minutes. When it is all said and done it is hardly worth it for me. Now I eat all my food slow or I will throw it up. Bread is super rediculously slow. If you are craving it maybe try using a dipping sauce like ranch or something. I know it's not healthy but come-on it's not like you will have more than a few bites. Good luck.

My weakness it chocolate. I will eat 5-6 mini Reese until I and sick on the couch in the fetal positions. I am new and still learning and sometimes the cravings win.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
