Day 13 and had a small slip am I ruined now!

Recommended Posts

Ok Im going to be honest and `say I am 13 days post op and still on full liquids! I have ONLY done liquids nothing else, but today I had a little bit of cheese and a few bites of soft soft garlic bread. ( I ended up making myself throw up the garlic bread bc I felt so guilty) But is my stomach ruined now? I feel so guilty and awful for doing this and know I will NEVER EVER cheat on my diet now! I just need to know has anyone slipped once and were you ok?

I'm 6 days post op and I'm on soft pudding type foods. liquid was only in the hospital for me. How long do you have to be on liquids?

I'd say don't beat yourself up about it. Move on. But remember how it made you feel.

NO your stomach is not ruined. HOWEVER if you make yourself throw up a lot you could do some damage.

Don't sweat it too much,,, just keep the scale number in mind when those temptations come to you and imagine the next lower number.

I am guessing that making yourself throw up is very bad on your stomach. Don't do it.

Cheating a little (as long as it's soft food)won't hurt your stomach if you ch ew VERY well and swallow slowly and take breaks in between bites.

Follow your doctors orders. The post op diet is very important because you do not want to put stress on that staple line. People do get leaks for that reason and believe me, they are completely horrible. Then you're looking at a feeding tube!

14 days post-op I was eating green chili and drinking alcohol. I couldn't even imagine throwing up though, that must have hurt like hell.

Just stick to what your doctor and body are telling you.

I am not a doctor or a dietitian(obviously) but I will say that every time you get that impulse to eat the "whatever" tempts you, give yourself a few minutes and internally ask why, and is it worth it? If you can come to an answer that is rational for you to go ahead and cheat then go ahead but don't forget what got you to the point of having to lay on a table and be cut up-the food-the impulse eating-the lack of self-control, which well said by other veteran sleevers DOES NOT go away with surgery. I don't think you are ruined use the experience to learn about yourself. Next time it happens use it again to learn about yourself, I am four weeks out and I will tell you that I bakes a batch of oatmeal/chocolate chip Cookies for the kids, I decided to grab a pinch off of one and see what it tasted like-the oatmeal went down like a BRILLO pad no matter how many times I chewed. The pain? NOT worth it, I was not fortunate like some to throw it up it went down slowwwwww and harsh. The amount was smaller than a penny....can you imagine. Throw a piece of bread in a glass of Water and see what happens, I don't want that near my sleeve. There is life after food addiction there is life after being slaved to food-I am ready to live that life and NOTHING is going to destroy that for me, when I feel the need for something sweet I do a SF Jello chocolate/vanilla and I feel fine. cheer2.gifGood luck to you and enjoy the new you, you deserve to.

My doctor told me that after 10 days you have less than a 1 percent chance for a leak and after 2 weeks 0 percent chance. With that being said, I have been on clears for 10 says and after day 10 can have eggs, yogurt and shakes until 2 week mark. It's VERY important not to rush your stomach and healing.

Thank you all you all are very encouraging! I barely ate any of it and I still lost weight! Today I had one pureed meal and didnt eat much of it at all! I go on full pureed tomorrow! I had a little bit of mac n cheese pureed and my stomach was ok with that! I dont want to get in that habit though, bc mac n cheese isnt what I need nor want to eat! It is right that I will beat this food addiction! No food is worth going back to where I was! I got this band for a reason and I do not need to mess it up!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
