Any December Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Im scheduled for December 20, 2010. What a wonderful Christmas gift. I am so excited I can't stand it. I cant believe that I actually have a date for my new life to begin. I haven't been this excited since giving birth to my children. If I knew how to do a cartwheel I would. Maybe when I lose some of my weight I will learn how to do one.

whoohooo

we're having surgery the same day.

Hello December Sleevers,

My sleeve date is December 30th and I think I am starting to get exxxcitied. They originally gave me January 17th which I havent gave a second thought about since they sent me the letter. Then they called me with a cancellation and it was for December 30th. I gladly excepted and although I still have a month to go it is starting to hit me that I will start my count down at the 1st of December. My stomach has butterflies. But again I am happy that I am going to be starting my new journey before the new year. Merry Sleeve Day everyone.

I am also having surgery on the sixth. I will say a little pray that your goes well. I am not looking forward to the month of December but the months to follow will be great! My husband keeps reminding me that next year I will be a loser. Ive tried to lose weight for ten long years and next year I will lose FOR GOOD!

Good luck to you. Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm glad I have a sleeve buddy to go thru this with. I will pray that your surgery goes smooth and recovery is fast and as painless as possible. I've been overweight my whole life and no matter what I do I can't get it off or stay off once I lose it. Good luck to you!

Hi all - I haven't been to active on the boards here but I've been lurking a lot. I've recently finished my 3 month insurance requirements and am scheduled for December 14th - just waiting on insurance approval. Good luck to you all, I have to say I'm starting to get nervous.

OMG i just scheduled my surgery for December 8th, 2010 with Dr. Almanza, for $4400 at the Jerusalem Hospital. I am completely thrilled and terrified at the exact same time but, I think this will be the beginning a a wonderful change for the better. My mother has already agreed to go with me and so I plan to start my all liquid diet the day after Thanksgiving. I have started compiling the list of the things I need to bring with me and the things I need to buy. My husband has already taken off the week from work that I will be returning from the hospital so he and I will have a good bit of time to acclimate before things go back to normal. I am going nuts. I think I will take before pictures and measurements in the buff Thanksgiving Day and again on December 7th. Good Luck everyone!

Leesey,

I am having my surgery on Dec 20th by Dr. Almanza @Jerusalem hospital. Would you please let me know how it goes for you? I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

Did you have to wire money to a person or the hospital? If you don't mind me asking, who are you using as your "contact person"?

Thanks,

Sadiegirl

Sadiegirl,

I am paying via Paypal (I feel much safer with having a recourse if there are any issues), I will definitely let you know how it goes. How much research have you done? I found two people who had gone through this hospital and doctor before and they both had pretty positive experiences. One of the people ( a woman) took lotsa of pictures and documented her entire experience. But, I will definitely let you know how it goes for me. Why did you choose the 20th instead of sooner?

I started my liquid diet today. I can have low fat cream Soups, so I found a recipe online for a low fat Cream of pumpkin Soup. I bought my husband a Boston Market Turkey Medallion dinner and he is even going to wait to eat while I am out shopping tomorrow. One day down and 6 days to go for the diet. I can't wait.

I am scheduled for surgery Dec. 7th and have been on a light liquid diet for over two weeks. My diet consists of

1 Optifast shake for Breakfast

1 optifast bar for lunch

6ounce of meat for dinner and veg.

So far I am down 30 lbs

Today is Thanksgiving and the house will be full of food and people.

I'm planning to avoid the food by disappearing at the appropriate times.

Hopefully POSTOP will be easier

Happy Holidays all

Scheduled and approved for December 7 with Dr. Vohra

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
