Any December Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for 12/20/10. Hopefully I get cleared by my PCP. I have to repeat blood work on Monday, so I hope all will be smooth after that! :)

Hey that is great! I am glad that the gas is getting better. I did so much walking at the hospital but I havent done much at home. Gonna get busy today. Got to find a new Protein. The one I have is fine and yesterday I got in quite a bit of it but I am tired of the flavor already. So how long will you be on liquids? They told me that after the first week on broths, crystal light, sf drinks, and Water, sf popsciles, and Protein Shakes, I could eat greek yogart or cottage cheese if I was getting in 70 grams of protein. At this point have NO desire to eat yogart or cottage cheese and am pretty far from 70 grams of protein. BUT I am getting in about 40 ounces of water so I am happy. Still taking pain meds? I am. I am also dealing with a lot of gurgling. Hoping today I turn the corner on the pain meds. Can't wait to hear from you and everyone else sleeved in DEC.

Well everyone I am sleeved and couldn't be happier! My only problem was with gas. It is getting better but still not gone. I stayed 2 nights instead of 1 because of the gas. I have 5 small incisions, and I had a hernia repaired that I didn't even know I had. I've got 2 weeks of liquids then I can start bringing in some smaller foods.

Good luck to everyone!

I hear ya on the Protein. You are getting way more than I am. I just can't get it down. I really only took pain meds the first day and then when I got headaches after that. I haven't had any pain meds today at all. I am sore and get around slow but I think that is expected. I'm glad your doing well. Let me know what you find out about Protein Drinks. I had an Isopure in the hospital and it is the best I've had yet! Good luck.

Dec 13th is coming up very very fast! I like to think that I am prepared but I know that I probably am not. Now I am just waiting for a phone call telling me what time I have to be at the hospital on Monday. I am not sure if what I am about to do has sunk in yet though...

I am scheduled for Monday the 13th. I can't wait. I have been on liquids for two weeks. I spent today cleaning my house from top to bottom. My husband has been very supportive. He had gastric bypass two years ago and lost 90 pounds. He feels great. I just couldn't wrap my head around the re-routing part of gastric bypass, so I was thrilled when the doc suggested this. I am ready.

Hey there!

I am on the 14th! Feeling much the same way! I've lost 9 lbs on the pre-op diet, and I think I am in good shape for surgery. Please post when you are out. We are rooting for you!

Thank you. The support on this board has meant a lot to me, I have told very few people, so it is nice to have someone to talk to. G

My surgery is Monday as well. I finally got called late Friday with my surgery time...1:20!!! I was hoping for first thing in the morning. Now I have all morning to worry and be anxious! I also have been cleaning all weekend! I guess I am trying to get things prepared for when I come home. My boyfriend is also very supportive. I just wanted a really clean place so that he doesn't have to clean and take care of me. Good luck tomorrow!!!! Next thing you know we will be sleeved!!!

I have a feeling I'll be cleaning like a crazy person this week. I get sleeved on December 20th. And, then I have my family coming over for Christmas. Luckily, my mom will be doing all the work... and I'll be able to hide in my room if I want to sleep. But, I still want the apartment to be clean... so it will be good for Christmas AND for hubby.

Does anyone have a TO DO LIST before surgery? LOL

I keep thinking.. OPPS. Better add that to my to do list!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
