Frustrated w/so many things....

Recommended Posts

As some of you know, I'll write when I have a good day, or a bad day. Well, the past 3 days have been good,...BUT, my nutritionist is saying I'm not doing good, and it's bumming me out.

I am almost 4 weeks post-op. Lost 20 pounds so far. Already plateaued somewhat, but from what I read...this happens to many people at the 3 week mark. Everyone stated to get more Protein in and exercise more (can't do that yet because an internet stitch in this fascia popped....so I'm SORE still).

I am eating 3 meals a day (which before surgery I only had 2 - lunch and dinner). I'm drinking more than I did pre-op (about 50 ounces now which is a little hard for me). I focus on Protein constantly. But....she says IT'S STILL NOT ENOUGH. I am getting about 40 (average) protein a day. Apparently, I need to get 80 (DOUBLE). The ONLY way I can do this is if I drink supplements because my dinners consist of almost all protein.......and I know that the body can only handle 20g at a time.

I'm not cheating, I thought I was doing well....but she is saying that if I don't get these protein supplement drinks in....my hair will fall out MAJORLY.

I'm freaking! First, because I don't want my hair to fall out THAT much! Second, because I HAAAAAAATE the shakes, Protein Drinks.

You may need to add some Snacks to get in the Protein. Give us a few sample daily menus - maybe we can help out.

The body can handle far more than 20g at a time of Protein. This is an urban myth, I think MacMadame dealt with this ages ago but the thread has been lost in the mists of time!

Hi there,

I was having a hard time with Protein at first too, because I'm vegetarian. I got some dutch chocolate low-carb Isopure Protein Powder with 25 grams of Protein per scoop (from GNC) and I add it to a vanilla yogurt, tastes yummy! I also do the Isopure clear alpine punch protein powder that you add to Water, tastes like kool-aid to me, and two scoops in my Water means another 50 grams of protein for the day, and it helps me get my liquid down.

Just a suggestion. Snacking on some low-fat cheese can help too.

Wish you the best!

I am doing about 70 to 80 grams of Protein a day. But I get most of those in Snacks and the fact that I do drink a Protein Shake in the mornings. I blend my shake with a half a bananna a small teaspoon of Peanut Butter and a lil ice. The peanut butter cuts down on the foam that you can get when blending shakes and it adds a lil more protein. My snacks usually consist of Greek yogart (usually comes with fruit in it), cottage cheese (with fruit), cheese (have to be careful not to get constipated), and sliced 98 0r 99 % fat free lean ham, chicken, or turkey. Sometimes the sliced meat can give 5 grams of protein per thin slice and I usually can eat 2 maybe 2 and 1/2. Other then that mixing up some sugar free pudding and using the flavorless protein powder does really well. I also mixed the flavorless protein powder with EVERYTHING almost my first month to 6 weeks post op because it was harder to eat things. Just some ideas

Thanks for all the suggestions. I REALLY like mixing the unflavored mix (I have a bag already) to my sugar free pudding. I never thought of that. I do mix it with Jello when I make it, and that's decent.

I can't do the greek yogurt, cottage cheese thing. I didn't do it beforehand either.

My Nut doesn't want me to snack AT ALL...but, to get my Protein in...I'm gonna have to.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
