how soon did you try alcohol?

Recommended Posts

I am going to Vegas next month and I will be about 2 1/2 months out from surgery by then. I would love to be able to have a drink socially here and there, but I don't want to harm my tummy.

has anyone tried it that soon and if so was it ok?

Thanks

Sherri

So I'm a month out and I tried it a few days ago. Now I'm wondering if I should have waited but I didn't so here is my two cents. I felt it a lot faster than before wls and couldn't drink much anyways since I can only hold 3 oz at a time. My drink was warm by the time my stomach let me get more than that few oz. I honestly wouldn't do shots if I were you and I would take it slow.

My Nut said I could try it about 8/9 weeks out... so I tried it but to be honest didn't really enjoy it.

I don't as a rule drink much anyway as I am usually driving, but I tried wine which I had ice in and also watered it down. I've not tried spirits yet, but I'm in no rush to - empty calories in a way - I'd rather lose weight quicker and go without IMO.

I think I'd tried it by 2.5 months out. Honestly, though, I don't dig it much any more. I used to really enjoy Margaritas, but I've stopped ordering them because I just can't finish one. They're too sugary or something, and it just kills me to spend $10 on a drink and leave most of it behind! If I find myself out for drinks with friends, I'll just order a glass of white wine and sip it -- one glass will last me for an evening.

I too went to Vegas 2 months out ... I was afraid to ask my doctor about drinking so I sent him an e-mail . He told me it was fine to have a glass or two of wine.

So, I did. BOY! That first glass took a LONG time to go down. Ended up having to put ice in it because it got too warm. And, be warned it will hit you faster than you realize!

I do have a nice glass of wine once or twice a week now - no issues at all. (But I do stop at one - more than that and I get VERY tipsy!) This is one of my little anticipated "treats" that I give myself now that I am within site of goal.

I'm with the crowd. I've had a few drinks since my surgery (three months out). It affected me a lot faster, and differently. There's no way to drink enough volume to become really intoxicated (which is probably a good thing) unless you're drinking hard liquor.

Plus, the two or three drinks that I did have made me mildly hungover the next day, which is a first (given my weight before surgery, I could have easily downed a six pack and not felt a thing the next day and only felt mildly tipsy at the time).

All things considered, it's just not that much fun any more. Which, again, is probably a good thing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
