16 - 22nd May- Pledge your Points!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone and Welcome,

This is week 2 and we are continuing with this fun way of catching up with exercise.

This thread is for everyone who needs motivation and encouragement to get moving and to help make us accountable to ourselves and one another.

The Plan is to draw up a new thread each week, running from Sunday to Saturday.

You are awarded "Points" for exercise and everyone works to their own ability.

You get 1 Point for every 10 minutes of exercise.

You choose whatever activity you wish.

Each week you pledge your points on board - making a committment to achieve them, and then you strive all week to achieve your own goal.

You keep your own score and at the end of the week you must let us all know just how well you did.

Hopefully, this will be FUN!

We are looking for EVERYONE to join in, so come on and Pledge your points!

Okay, I am ready to have a better go at this. My goal is to get 18 points this week. I intend to walk my dog twice per day. I am also implementing swimming activies with my clients so hopefully that will help too!

Hi,

I am keeping my goal of 15 Points this week. I found it quite difficult last week so it will be a challenge.

Wannalise. What kind of a dog have you? Does he need much walking?

I have 2 little dogs, a chihuahua and a papillon and we all enjoy the walks. Hopefully they are in for a real treat this Summer!

I did not make my 15 points last week because I didn't have a chance to do anything at work Friday, and Saturday morning we wound up going down to my in-laws for the weekend.

I'm pledging 15 points again this week, and got off to a good start yesterday. First I need to clarify, do things like yardwork count? If so, then between raking and clearing away hedge clippings for a hour, and taking an hour-long walk, there's 12 points. If not, then we'll just count the walk and there's 6 points! And I'll change my pledge to 20 since it's still so early in the week.

Working on the gumption to go out and mow the lawn before it rains this afternoon... it's a self-propelled walk-behind mower, does that count?

We adopted a mini schnauzer from a rescue a couple weeks ago, he loves walks and if mentally I can make my focus on helping him be healthy and taking my clients (I work with adults with disabilities) swimming to help them with their goals I can make it less about my weight loss. At this point if I could build a habit I'd be so pleased! I used to really love exercising.

Tee hee! I am excited I just found copies on ebay of hip hop abs. If I can dance and be tricked into exercise I am in!

Hello All,

Great to see you are all doing so well.

The good news is that any type of activity counts- work or play!

10 minutes of any type of sustained activity = 1 point

It's a double bonus to get your yard work done or the dogs walked or to just have fun.

Keep up the good work and log back in here on Saturday to let us all know what worked for you, or what didn't as the case may be.

I aim to walk my little dogs every day. They enjoy it so much, I should learn from them.

Okay, so one hour of exercise is 6 points? Just making sure I'm thinking correctly! I'm on my first day of summer vacation and I don't plan to think much. HA!

Yes, that's it, 1 hour of exercise/movement = 6 points.

I envy you starting your vacation. Enjoy!

Thank you! So far this week I have earned 24 points and because I am just getting in on this, I will pledge 6 points for tomorrow. Fun!

:thumbup1: :001_tt2: :001_tt2: Didn't you just love those "overachiever" types in school! :001_tt2: :001_tt2: :001_tt2:

Just kidding - great work. I could never do that - I still hate exercise, but I'm working my way up. It's a start!

Oh gosh, I would NEVER have been able to do this on my own. Until this month, I "exercised" at home and would not have earned nearly as many points. I joined a gym and am crazy about the classes...I push myself in them, whereas at home, I don't work nearly as hard!

That is awesome. I'm still looking for my "motivation". But, at least I'm moving some. Congratulations!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
