My thoughts on pregnancy.

Recommended Posts

I just need to say this to someone, and since none of you really know me, I figured it's safer to say it here than my blog!

I'm ready to be a mom. I want to be pregnant so bad. I had this surgery so I could be pregnant at a "healthy" weight. When I got married I was 31 years old and weighed about 330. A year later I was facing my 32nd birthday and weighed 351. So, along came the VSG and has really changed my life. My husband's brother got married 2 weeks before my surgery last summer and they are expecting their first child in May. I'm so jealous.

I really want to lose another 65 pounds or so before I get pregnant, but now my thought is, I'm going to be 33 in June and what if it takes us a year to get pregnant? That age (33) damn near OLD in the maternity world!!! So now I'm thinking that as soon as I lose another 50 pounds I'm going to talk to my husband about starting to try. I can still lose weight while we are trying! I hope he goes for it.

And I hope this gives me the motivation to lose that next 50 pounds!

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

Ash, I'm right there with you, and understand how you feel. We quit preventing pregnancy last month, and while we aren't humping like rabbits, I am charting.

I talked to my surgeon, nut and PCP all agree that I can start now. I'm 33, and will be 34 in December so my clock is ticking big time. Getting pregnant and delivering a healthy baby was a huge driving force for me in having this surgeon, and getting to healthy weight.

Vent away. I'm so scared it's going to take us forever to get pregnant, and if I see one more cute pregnant baby belly, I'll scream.

Girls I wish you both success in getting pregnant and I hope it is QUICK! When I was 34 I went to the OB about not being able to conceive and she laughed at me. Well needless to say 4 years, 5 iui's, 2 miscarriages and 2 ivfs later I got my baby! He is now almost 10 months old and a joy. When I was younger(28) I got pregnant within 6 months. I don't know if it was my age or my weight. After I lost 20 lbs I got pregnant again and didn't miscarry.

I hope neither of you have ANY difficulties. Take extra Folic Acid and continue the healthy lifestyle you have been doing. It will pay off. I truly believe if you want to be a momma you will! I know the feeling of all your friends and relatives getting pregnant and you not. So if you ever need a friend or an ear I am right here.

I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Have fun trying and TRY not to think about it too much. I do have a fertility monitor that if either of you want to try you are more than welcome too!

HUGS!:D

Ladies, I'm there with you. The only reason I even looked into having wls was because I had to lose weight in order to get pregnant (a decision my husband and I made). I got married at 28 and started trying almost immediately (went off the pill). After a couple months bought a fertility monitor and finally after 1 year went to a fertility specialist. I had all of the tests run and I was not ovulating (knew that) and my cycles varied from 36-90 days (or something like that). I had an open myomectomy in Jan. 2009 (had so many fibroids) and was supposed to go back to the specialist to get assistance in May of 2009, but my husband basically said not at the weight I was at and I understood. I started looking into ways to lose weight and discovered wls was an option for me and took it.

I now have friends on their second baby that started trying the same time as we were back in 2007. Three teacher friends have given birth this school year plus my next door neighbor last month. There are four other teachers that are pregnant and two I've been told in confidence (they aren't that far along). My younger cousin announced her unexpected pregnancy this past November and will be having a little boy this summer.

Amanda, I hope your husband goes for it. I'm planning to start actively trying next month after I see my surgeon again, but I'm going to try to not get so wrapped up with it like I have in the past (yeah, right) and realize we might need assistance.

I wish you both luck!

I used to think when I was 25 that if DH didnt come around to the idea of a baby soon, I was just going to be too old to even enjoy it. The truth is, I could have a baby now at 42 and enjoy it just as much - well MORE because now we're financially secure and could really just relax about the whole thing.

My sister just had her first at 40 and is loving every minute of it.

I know I was very lucky but I got pregnant first try at 35 for my third.

Not that I'm discouraging you from trying, not at all, more saying just dont stress over the age thing, you're far from old. You've got years to have a couple of kidlets yet. There's so many pluses and minuses when you're considering when to have a baby, but whether you're 25 or 35, its pretty much the same experience, its the other elements of your life that can make it more enjoyable or more stressful.

But I really dont think 15lb of weight one way or another is important, you're ready when your'e ready and you've got years afterwards to focus on your weight.

just wanted to pipe in.... i struggled with infertility for 13 years. exhausting every medical procedure in hopes of a child. my infertility was not weight related... but no mater the reason the hurt and longing is the same. in the end i was unable to carry a pregnancy. this year at the age of 43 my beautiful daughter was born via the help of a gestational carrier. she is the most wonderful aspect of my life. we have a new baby to be born this coming august. so all i can say for all of you that long for a child is to hold tight to the dream. i will be your biggest cheerleader. kelly

Well, I had my first son at 34 and my last at 43. It can be done! They are both healthy. I just wasn't ready before then. A few people have made comments, but for us it works.

Hang in there...you'll be nuts like the rest of us soon. It does help to be a smaller weight to chase them.

Ladies, I'm so SO glad I'm not alone here with this issue! I just keep telling myself that it might be as early as this summer that we can start trying. :crying: Best of luck to you all, and I will send baby vibes to those of you who want them!

Well, when i got home yesterday, I just decided to tell my husband my plan. He had the day off and seemed to be in a good mood, so I just said, "Babe, when I lose 150 pounds, I want to get off the pill. I can still lose the rest of the weight while we are trying." He was like, "Ok, that's fine." YAY!

He wants his brother's kids and our kids to be close in age like he was with his cousins, so he's all good with it!

YAY YAY Amanda ! ! ! I'm so glad he's on board with you.

My poor husband asked me yesterday if we were going to start scheduling sex. I said "if we have to, we will."

I went to Wal-Mart on Sunday, and I am being serious when I tell you that I saw 10 pregnant women. It was like a bad dream. I thought I was being tortured with every corner I turned.

A friend of mine swears she got pregnant by taking her temperature daily? I think that's what she told me. This was a couple of years ago. My husband thinks that when I'm off the pill I'll want to do it all the time. HAHA, we'll see.

I'm sorry pregnant women are torturing you. It isn't a torture for me yet, but Josh's cousin is having a baby next week, then our sister in law in may, and two more of his cousin's wives in June and July. It's ridiculous. His grandparents have something like 30 great-grandchildren and they just keep coming. The number of kids under 5 at Sunday lunch is like 10 kids or something crazy. BABIES EVERYWHERE. And we attend a Sunday School class for new parents, so that's fun. Last year at work, we had about 5 baby showers if I am remembering right. I don't think anyone at work is pregnant right now, which I'm sure my principal is loving.

I just hope I'm as fertile as the rest of my husband's family seems to be.

I'm so happy he is on board for trying!!! My principal makes comments all the time about how we need to alternate our pregnancies (so we can keep the good subs busy all of the time)...if only they were that easy to plan.

I right there with all of you! I have been trying to get pregnant for over 7 years. I am getting the sleeve in hopes of then being able to conceive. I know how crazy the fertility process can be. I wish you all luck!!

I had my last two babies at 35 and 36, you have plenty of time still LOL I had my uterus yanked at 37. I wasn't using it anymore anyway, so why not? No periods, yay! My pregnancies at that age were no different than my pregnancy at 30 and 32 other than I got a buttload more tests because I was considered to be of advanced maternal age.

Best of luck to you all. One of my friends tried for years to get regnant to no avail. Once she dropped 50lbs she got knocked up immediately.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
