A word about stalls-losing pounds and sizes

Recommended Posts

I have been dieting my WHOLE life. I once went from 285lbs (my highest weight) to 158lbs by way of low carb dieting. I've been successful many times only to regain the weight plus some. I see so many people getting frustrated over stalls; not losing weight for weeks. Sometimes the scales just need to be put away.

So many times I would weigh in and see no movement for days, then weigh in the next and see 5lbs gone overnight. I know this can be frustrating but our bodies are ARE responding! I knew I was losing because my clothes were fitting differently.

I don't know why this happens, but it ALWAYs happens to me when dieting and I know it's disheartning when you put forth all the effort and see the numbers staying the same. I say, put the scales in the closet. I just wanted to share my experience:)

i totally agree with you, we are so pressured by the numbers on the scale and that's why i think sometimes we don't lose weight. what i do now is check the scale every 2-3 weeks and i've had better results. try it and see how you feel. goodluck!!:thumbup1:

Yes, I agree. I don't weigh myself every day: once a week on average. And before my period, not even that as I always retain Water. I had a definite stall of nearly three weeks just a couple of weeks ago (three months post surgery) but now I've lost four pounds in just a week. You need to set yourself up to succeed, not to fail!

I keep reading the posts, but it is so hard not to step on that scale everyday. I feel like everywhere I go, people are asking. It's only been a little over a month for me and all the weight is just melting off. I know I am just setting myself up for disappointment but I can't help it. I have TWO scales in my house, three if we are counting the one on the WII fit.

It's become an obsession.

JeepChick,

That's so awesome about your weight loss! I'm very worried because I'm almost 2 weeks post op and have only lost 9 lbs :tongue_smilie: Does that sound normal? My friend had the surgery on Feb. 11th the same day as me and she has lost 17 lbs!! I'm still on my liquid diet (and hating it) and don't understand! Am I doing something wrong? :(

I know it's hard - believe me, I KNOW! But, try not to compare yourself to others. Remember, this is YOUR JOURNEY. Talk with your surgeon and see what they think about your weightloss so far.

If you must compare, try to do it as % lost. Did your friend have a lot more to lose.

I know Mini-Me you are right. I'm freaking out. Funny enough, my friend and I weighed 211! The same! That's why I started to panic! :tongue_smilie:

Hey, can you tell me how I can post a new question on here?

Thanks

jeepChick, I'm with you...obsessed. I weigh every day. Sometimes more than once.

I don't get upset when it goes up a notch or two...usually means I am just needing a good poop. :tongue_smilie:

As long as I keep losing 10 lbs a month I am happy...it is remarkably like clockwork each month...I love my sleeve:001_tt1:

My first two weeks out I lost about 10 pounds. So don't worry about it. I am learning now that everyone is different. I had my surgery the same day as another patient and she is down almost 40 pounds! WOW!

Hello,

I was wondering if your Wii scale is in sync with your other scales? I have been weighing myself with my Wii scale but do not have another scale to compare it to. I do not go back to the doctor until November for an official weight.

Thanks,

Janice

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
