Why would you leave the US for surgery?

Recommended Posts

We try to keep the doctor bashing down on these boards and stick with facts only.

While I agree that with the change in admins things have greatly improved related to Dr Bashing however that was not always the case.

Now that Wasabubblebutt does not post much n this board and "resigned" as an admin things are much more balanced.

I have no problem with folks singing the praises of their surgeon. I DO have a huge problem when lies, half truths, unsupportable facts are posted and when the poster refuses to provide cites and or sources for their "facts".

WASa,

Does Dr Aceves train other surgeons in Mexicali? I am concerned about possibly having a surgeon in training with him doing my surgery while he supervises. Just don't want anyone but him doing it. I work in a teaching hospital and what I see gives me the heebie jeebies!

Ditto.

. His experience is fantastic, his stats are better than any US surgeon I have heard of, he's well respected in the bariatric community, he trains surgeons in these procedures all over including the US.

My thoughts exactly Mac. Instead of Dr. bashing I guess the cool thing to do is bash members who chose to no longer be a part of this forum.

If posting the truth is bashing then Yes I am a basher. I have no idea if Wasa left being an admin voluntarily or not and there is not really any proof one way or the other except for her word about it.

I will continue to post about MY experience with Wasa, I will continue to post and tell others to take what she says in light of the fact that she often cannot and will not back up what she says. I will continue to post about the LIES, not opinions, she has historically posted on this and the OH board. I do not think it is COOL I think it is what needs to be done so folks reading her information do not take it as "expert", "factual" or "true"

I'm all for sharing YOUR personal experience, but is there really a need for you to explicitly seek out to discredit someone else's post. I'm pretty sure everyone here, and on OH are adults and able to make responsible decisions on their own. I would hope if they are considering WLS they would be able to do their own research, and realize the difference between lies, and opinions.

For God's sake, she isn't even a member here any more. So, why continually bring it up. You can share your experience, opinions, and facts without "bashing" someone else. It only makes your credibility at most questionable, and it seems like a personal vendetta against someone on an internet forum. It's lame and immature in my opinion.

That's called "board dragging". It's lame and unnecessary and generally frowned upon throughout the internet.

What happens at OH should stay there and what happens here should stay here IMO.

I agree, Tiff.

I don't need a citation/footnote for every opinion I read here, and I appreciate everyone's opinion. I realize they are personal experiences/opinions and may not always be"facts" as other people see things. It's helpful to hear it all and make up my own mind.

If I have a question about the source of a statement, I usually PM the person. Works for me.

Geez, cant we all just get along? If anyone doesnt like what they read or see, no one here is going to make them stay here and be exposed to it. Thanks to all who keep this forum what it was meant to be. We have a kind caring forum family here, I would love to see it kept that way. PEACE

I'm not WASa but Dr. Aceves is not running a teaching hospital. He's a proctor and that means that he travels to other surgeons and shows them how to do procedures.

My understanding is that he does all his own surgeries and his assistant only holds the extra instruments.

Keep it friendly, please all. We encourage everyone to post their personal experiences with their doctors. We discourage personal attacks on one another.

FYI I am referring to things that happened here on this board. I do not and did not bash any surgeon.

I do not address the Wasa issue unless I see posts by her or about her.

WasA refuses to post at this board anymore even though several people have emailed her and asked her to come back. People miss her and she knows it , but still refuses to post on this board. She has her own personal reasons.

Wasa was very helpful and supportive to me while she was here. I hope to be as supportive to someone else after I have my surgery.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
